Obama: No Smoking in the House

1208obama.jpg

Will President-elect Barack Obama keep the White House smoke-free?

That's true! Obama says he won't light-up in the White House, but that doesn't mean he hasn't given into the temptations of cigarettes. The future Prez was on Sunday's "Meet the Press," telling Tom Brokaw, "There are times where I've fallen off the wagon."

Obama said in an interview with Men's Health magazine that he bummed a cig or two during the campaign. "But I figure, seeing as I'm running for president, I need to cut myself a little slack."

This story is just helping us learn a little bit more about the man. Lighten up. Some people smoke, some don’t. We all have prefrences and vices. It’s what makes us human. It’s nice to know he’s not a robot.

This is ridiculous but it doesn’t surprise me in that smoking has become demonized to the point that some people view it like heroin or crack.

Look….it is NOT illegal as much as some would like it to be. I quit 2 years ago and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. People enjoy spouting off their lame statistics, twisting things around about how “your cigarette is more harmful to me than you” but the sad truth is 1) it harms the smoker far more than you despite what you may have heard and 2) I assure you that if you live in a city, car exhaust will be taking you out well before your co-workers’ cigarette.

I’m not advocating smoking. It’s bad all around and anyone who smokes SHOULD quit. However, like the sheep that most people are, many people have bought into the hype to the point that they treat smokers as if they are criminals. It’s a form of fascism that they are too stupid to comprehend. Quite honestly, from anti-tobacco lobbyists point of view, they have succeeded beyond expectations: they don’t have to do much at this point because the general public has largely turned on smokers. You can’t smoke in most public buildings now but the issue still gets pressed.

Firing people for smoking like that douche bag from WEYCO? Not ethical…and disturbing that many of his employees bent over and took it. I could make you do things as well by putting it a gun in your face, but it wouldn’t make me “right”, even if you were better off for what I had you do.

I’m glad Obama is a smoker and that he is quitting. Maybe what we need in the white house is someone who represents what smokers TRYING TO QUIT throughout this country are dealing with….a big example to show that it is an addiction that can be beaten but it isn’t as simple as some anti-tobacco zealots would have you believe.

I could make just as much of an argument that alcohol is a destructive force in this society. If the right people with an agenda and money desired, they could turn a lot of people against drinking as well. I’d like to see people who drink and attack smokers react to that. A vice is a vice. BUT it is LEGAL….get over it.

No he isn’t a “weak person” either. Anyone who says that is an a—hole. Incidently, I lost respect for Browkaw as a result of this. That was pathetic. Not enough real issues to pick on him about, huh?

This is ridiculous, leave the man alone, I’m 15 and smoke, I think the president elect has bigger things to worry about than lighting up in the White House. If you you people think that THIS is news to make a fuss over, how about picking on Governor Rod Blagovich of Illinois, he sold a seat on the state house and went to prison!

Obama is strikingly the “same” as Hitler. Not only in his “views” but his “character”.

Fact: Obama is NOT black. He is Bi-Racial.

HITLER WAS A GERMAN JEW, OBAMA IS BLACK.

The militant non smoking Hitler would feel more at home in the white house than the chain smoking FDR.

leave the poor guy alone, he has more to worry about now that he is President than whether or not he is going to “light up” in the White House

Where exactly were you when the buzzards we call media were pecking apart the characters of one John McCain and Sarah Palin?

It’s all different THEN I’m certain.

President Elect Obama is just beginning to experience what the spotlight of “celebrity” is all about. You think the cigarette question was tough, wait til the real questions regarding this country begin to get asked. And even better, wait til he can no longer run from his past anymore. You’ll be is “shock and awe” when you discover the real and true Barrack Obama..

Shame on Tom Brokaw to end his great interview with our new President on Sunday with the cigarette question. That was a very unprofessional and disrespectful remark.

I didnt even vote for him and felt it was a very rude remark to make to him.

Actually, so what if the guy smokes. Thats not why he was hired. All we want is that he makes every effort to save our country. If he has a cig once in a while, leave him alone. We need to support him at this point. Not tear him down.

President Elect Obama dodged this question when asked by Tom Brokaw on Meet the Press!!

This is only one of many “dodged” questions that this man has face and will continue to face. The kid gloves in handling this new president will have to come off sooner or later, so he can actually be introduced to the real job of being the President.

Sooner or later, he will not have pre-approval of the questions he is asked. Sooner or later, any truth this man is hiding will surface and the world will see that he is far from “perfect” and has a questionable background very much worth investigating and exposing.

Sooner or later, his complete lack of experience for the President of the United States will be exposed, and his “followers” will be deeply hurt, and disappointed.

So how come Bush was allowed to smoke cigars then in the oval office. He was caught by Bob Woodward.

Considering all of the concerns about McCain’s skin cancer I find it interesting that the press managed to cover-up the image of Obama’s smoking habit and it’s tie to lung cancer! Let alone all of the negative image remarks regarding other Republican candidate’s dress etc. There is a reason that those images of Obama smoking never surfaced. We live with the negative health results of smoking in our family, don’t tell me it is minor!

The saddest thing about this story, and many other similar ones, is that anyone would consider whether Obama smokes, or not, newsworthy. Give me a friggin’ break!
Lets start a string on what kind of underwear(boxers or briefs)he plans to wear while in office. I’m sure the global media will pick that one up in short order, eh?
