Move over Barney, there's a new dog in the presidential circle!

Vice President-elect Joe Biden has bought a six-week-old German Shepherd puppy, making good on his wife's promise that he could buy a dog if he and Barack Obama won the White House.

"[Joe] was very gracious," Pennsylvania breeder Linda Brown told People Pets. "He hugged and kissed all of the shepherds."

The puppy, which is to be named by Biden's grandchildren, will join him after being trained by dog trainer Mark Tobin -- whose dogs beefed up Joe's security on the campaign trail.

Barney the Scottish Terrier is the Bush family's precious pooch, but his cuteness is rivaled by Biden's new German Shepherd pup!

Joe Biden will make an EXCELLENT Vice President. Everyday I wake up thanking God that he will be our VP instead of Sarah Palin who would have been an absolute disaster. It’s recently been revealed that the mother of Palin’s pregnant teen daughter’s boyfriend was busted for pushing drugs. What a disgrace! we don’t need all that circus in the White House. Thank God we avoided it.

Go Biden, Go Obama. Together you can rebuild America.

Of course Joe Biden can buy a puppy from a breeder if he wishes - as long as he can sleep nights knowing that millions of perfectly health, equally beautiful, equally intelligent, equally well-bred puppies will be euthanised in this country. As long as he can sleep knowing that. I could not.

the dog in adorable, but it still doesn’t change my opinion about the man whom has acquired it? Anyone that smiles as much as this guy, and shifts his eyes as much as this guy, deserves to be affiliated with Barack Obama. I trust neither of them.

Biden is taking the dog way to early. I took mine at 12 weeks either he is taking it out for publicity photos or he is getting it ready for the family and himself. My Pure Bread is about 2 1/2 years old and I’ll say this about the breed, a lot of attention and extreemly intelligent. Good luck Joe.
