Jennifer Aniston beat out ex Brad Pitt for the highest earning movie opening on Christmas Day.

"Marley & Me" stars Aniston and Owen Wilson as a married couple and tells the story of their troublesome pup. The comedy grossed $14.8 million -- the highest one-day total ever for a film opening on Christmas.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is the story of a man who ages backwards starring Pitt and Cate Blanchet. The romantic drama earned $11.8 million and set the record for the second-highest Christmas opening of all-time.

I watched Marley and Me yesterday and it was beautiful. It’s a movie that you can relate to, very down to earth and realistic. There are tears and joy, just like real life. The ending was just right too - controlled emotions, real sadness when you lose your best friend but happiness remembering old days with him. There were a lot of old women with canes in the theater with their adult children accompanying them and their grandchildren and it was beautiful to watch and hear them talk and gush over the movie. Go Jen-wonderful pick for a movie.

Loved Marley and Me - hated Benjamin Button! I was coerced into going to the very poorly produced and boring as hell movie Benjamin due to family pressure - we were all disappointed and my son (22 years old) fell asleep 20 minutes into the movie! I am happy for Jen - sweet revenge! Angelina has sucked all the talent out of Pitt! He can’t act anymore! Although I loved Legends of the Fall, his lates movies, post Jen, (only two I have bothered to see) are horrible! Brad is obviously a lost, tired and troubled soul and it shows in his acting!

Brad movie might had a fewer showings but not enough to make up 4 million. Jen won hands down. Give credit where credit is due. Happy for you Jen and Owen.

Marley made more money than Pitt’s movie not because it showed it more theatres. The daily rate per theatre of Marley and me was US$4,195 versus Pitt’s US$3,800 on the first day. Second day, Marley’s daily rate per theater was US$4022 to Pitt’s S$3413. Do your math idiots.

It would be difficult a statement more wrong than that of boring hype below.
Moviegoers pay to see a movie exactly because of the cast in them and secondly, because of the story. If that weren’t the case, you and I could make a movie about posting on a dumb blog and wait for the money to roll in.
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!

It is disappointing to see great literary works keep being put in the hands of talentless dullards, i.e. Pitt/Button, Jolie/Beowulf, Atlas Shrugged.

The studios need to get over their myopia and realize these people do not inherently sell tickets and offer no box office guarantee. No one buys a movie ticket just cause any of these actors are in the film.

Time for some new faces on the movie merry go round. Take a chance on fresh real talent.

Marley and Me has the ‘cute dog factor.’ (And I mean Marley, of course.) That’s why it will have legs (and paws) in the future.

Of course the movie made more money, since it opened in more places then Brad’s movie.
Over time Brad’s movie will do great!

Marley and Me was in 3,480 theaters with a running time of 2hr 0min.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was in 2,988 theaters with a running time of 2hr 48min‎.
Of course Marley and Me made 3 mill more. It was able to show more in a day.

The Pitt movie will probably make more money in the long run. I have seen it and the story is great. The Aniston movie will fade fast but will make the early money but there is no substance.
