Shriver Defends Palin Against Wardrobe Critics

1023shriverpalin.jpg

Sarah Palin has been blasted by the media for spending $150K on her campaign wardrobe -- and California First Lady Maria Shriver came to the Alaska governor's defense.

"I think sometimes we get off-message about someone's shoes and their pants and their clothes and the color of their hair," Shriver tells "Extra." Maria also discussed the line of appropriateness when criticizing the other party's spending -- and how it's changed since her highly-publicized political childhood. "I think that's an age-old question. Where is the line? It's moved a lot since I was a child of a public figure.

Shriver, a Democrat, has been happily married to Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for 22 years -- and admits that there is no political party battle at their home on debate nights! "Actually every debate my husband has been out and I've had all my democratic friends over," Shriver laughs. "It's great!"

Heidi Klum joined Shriver at the 2008 Women's Conference, where the "Project Runway" style guru gave "Extra" her two cents about Palin's pricey threads. "Who am I to judge?" The supermodel asked. "Everyone has to have their own look and so does she."

While Klum shied away from condemning the GOP VP hopeful's fashion choices, Palin's fashion hits weren't enough to win Heidi's vote. "I just got my citizenship for America, so now I'm going to be voting too. I'm voting for Obama."

Autism activist Jenny McCarthy spoke out on whether Palin -- who, like Jenny, has a child with special needs -- can make a difference in Washington. McCarthy said that while Sarah has sympathy for the requirements of special needs kids, she's still unsure whether Palin can ignite change. "I don't know...she better speak up real quick."

To Was Joe the Plumber…have you seen the clothes at Walmart? Very cheaply made, nothing really nice for getting dressed up especially for campainging. Another thing, Palin is a small woman. Walmart does not have petite sized clothing. Get real, man!. Walmart!!! I am sure the Obama’s did not get their clothing there. They do not sell Marx brothers suits there ($2,000 each)which is what he wears. They are being returned and auctioned of so what is the big deal of it????? Extra thinks nothing of showing some expensive bling celebrities have or the Are you a LUXAHOLIC segment but that is ok, huh????? One piece of jewelry a celebrity buys cost more than Palin’s wardrobe.

Its funny how all the Democrats have picked Sarah Palin apart more on a personal attack than her political views from the way she dresses to her intimate family life (Democrats are good at pointing the finger at others for the exact same things they do) this is called a hypocrite!!

So every liberal within earshot of a TV is grasping at yet another pathetic straw against Sarah Palin (VP candidate, BTW), this being the most ridiculous and hypocritical of all.Yet, these same unfortunate souls see no problem with any of the REAL garbage constantly brewing around b.o.(PRES. candidate, BTW!!) Does anyone realize, while they are nitpicking about McC/P (obviously, they need to resort to this, because there is nothing of real detriment involving these two)what’s going to happen to all of us if obalma wins?? It’s enough to make one totally paranoid. When ANYONE else, for ex., says we have to pull out troops immediately from Iraq, it doesn’t really scare me, because they know there really is a proper way to do this, and unfortunately, war is a necessary evil at times. When HE says it, I just get a sinking, horrible feeling that he’s trying to help those who despise us.When he ‘slipped’ yet again, making many stomachs turn, about sharing the wealth, (not original - MLK had a similar speech, but it was a very different time back then)he’s clearly trying to equate us w/ socialism like other countries, I guess so we’ll be less threatening.Plus, he lies and denies, and bobs and weaves when posed any question that might enable us to know anything about him and his lack of experience. PLEASE - youtube - ‘obama october surprise’; I’d like to know why rules are being ignored for this guy, and everyone thinks it’s ok.

Just another comment. Too much is being made of her wardrobe. Whereas the Obama’s also have criticised the amount being spent. While Michelle is dining on caviar, and Lobster, and champagne. How hippocritical. They are spend happy, and will continue to do so if Hussein Obama gets elected. Spend, spend, spend, then TAX, TAX,TAX. The democrat way!

Too big of an issue is being made out of her wardrobe and what was spent on it. If the bashers critisizing her spent more time on more important issues instead of ths pettiness, maybe something would get done. The wardrobe is being given to CHARITY. Bottom Line!
So, get over it.
As Far as Heidi Klum goes and she is now a citizen so she can vote now, SO WHAT HEIDI! DO you actually know any of the real issues or taken the time to know what any of the important issues are all about? Or is it your voting for Obama just because of your husband SEAL! I highly doubt your smart enough to even know what any of the issues are all about! You have not the time to study them. Just another “bandwagon” supporter sounds to me!

I guess the conditions for the Obama and McCain campaigns could come to an agreement regarding not making “race” an issue..(although it clearly is).. But apparently there were no clauses regarding “sexism”?

Let’s take the only V.P. Female candidate and rake her over the coals every opportunity possible??

Sad really, that this is what electorial tactics have come to…

The focus always on the supposed “inexperience” of Sarah Palin (whom is running for Vice President by the way)

What is NEVER focused on in the INEXPERIENCE of Barack Huesein Obama, and the fact that THIS man is running for the commander in chief job, yet have never even entertained any notion of serving his country via the military!

Sarah Palin normally buys her clothes at a consignment store and her shoes at some inexpensive shoe store in Alaska. She did not buy these clothes…her campaign did and they’re being put up for auction with the proceeds going to charity after the election. Obama’s suits cost $1,500 and McCain’s shoes cost $400….believe me this is chump change compared to what the Obama campaign has spent on their candidate! Obama’s campaign has already planned a two million, $2,000,000, dollar victory party if/when he’s elected. Now that’s over the top!

Jon,

If Heidi Klum was voting for Mcain, would you call her an idiot also??? I doubt, and also you are not ruling USA, to say who can be a citizen of this country.

I think that the republican party is being a bit extravagant with contributor donations. Many don’t spend $150,000 for clothes in a lifetime.
Couldn’t she have been outfitted at fashion bug or Boscov’s like most of us common people?

I found it interesting that on EXTRA’s show there was an uproar about Palin’s wardrobe purchase and in the same show they were showing the new “Atlanta” housewives and their expensive taste and no one says anything about that! There are many celebrities and other people that spend that much money in one shopping spree with no questions asked!

This really is a non-issue. Don’t care what the RNC spends on her wardrobe…it’s their money so spend it how you see fit.

I was a Joe the plumber. But because of what is happening with our nations economy I no longer have my small business. Yeah it’s upsetting to see Palin spending that much money on clothes when there are so many of us loosing everything. Yep I think WalMart would have been fine, or hire some people to design and sew her clothes…EMPLOYEE a few 
