Biden vs. Palin

1003palin.jpg

Senator Biden and Governor Palin met in their first and only debate last night -- presenting stark differences in their approach to the country's problems. How did they do?

Palin, the self-proclaimed hockey mom who has come under even more scrutiny after a shaky television interview with Katie Couric, presented herself as an average, American middle class mom, using phrases like "heck of a lot" and "Main Streeters like me," and "you betcha." Palin appeared to stick to scripted answers, and told moderator Gwen Ifill that she might not answer in a way that was expected.

Biden also identified with the middle class, saying that unlike John McCain he's not out of touch -- and he knew what it was like to struggle as a single father. In an emotional moment, the Senator choked up recalling his son's near-death after the 1972 car accident that took the life of his wife and daughter. Biden said, "The notion that, somehow, because I'm a man, I don't know what it's like to raise two kids alone, I don't know what it's like to have a child you're not sure is going to make it... I understand as well as, with all due respect, the governor or anybody else, what it's like for those people sitting around that kitchen table."

While the two sparred over the economy and taxes, Palin trumpeted McCain as a maverick, a claim Biden challenged. Both candidates have sons about to serve in Iraq, and their stark contrast in their approach to the war was palpable. Biden said unequivocally that he and Obama would end it, while Palin supported the surge.

The two remained cordial, disciplined -- and even friendly, with their families mingling on stage at the end of the debate.

For some bizarre reason, my ans. has to be approved (big bro is watching!); but you’ll find it in the global news review, just in case the truth interests you. Let’s put it this way: he didn’t pay the first debt w/ his pocket money. The icing on the cake, is now, thx to his ineptitude in regards to a certain mr. b. laden,, we’ll be paying forever

Rae,

We were in a surplus when Clinton ended his term. So, how do you explain a 1/2 trillion dollar deficit NOW?

If you knew ANYTHING about McCain, you’d know he’s not really like Bush at all, and is considered a ‘liberal’ republican. The majority of their commonality has had to do mostly w/ the budget. PS: The eight years you’re talking about, was largely due to (probably your pal) clinton. That’s how long it took to clean up his mess and loose ends. Bush was not perfect by any means, but he’s kept us safe so far. obama wants to hand us overto his cronies (you know, the ones he denies associating w/)on a silver platter - you’ll (hopefully not) see.

This country is in it’s worst state in history! For the last 8 years, the Republicans have been leading this country! So, how do you McCain fans believe that by doing the same thing over again that we’re going to get different results? That’s the definition of insanity! Wake up and smell the coffee!!! Obama is the best choice for positive change!

How the heck is couric STILL on TV???!!?? Then again, how the heck is obama still allowed to run for president? What a crazy town - oh, wait. I get it. If you’re ‘old’,or experienced,or have a pregnant teen, hunt moose, or actually LIKE the country you wish to lead, THAT’S BAD. If you have proven dangerous people in your CURRENT social circle, theoretically side w/ terrorists of one type or another, have disdain for the US, cannot prove many of your ‘accomplishments’ - that’s A-OK. Welcome aboard! THAT IS what makes libs so frightening!

The republicans, for the most part, have kept this country from socialism. Just think of what’ll happen if b.o. wins. Neither party is w/o flaws or problems, but if liberals get their way, kiss the USA as you know it,bye-bye.

Hi Colleen!

Who do you think is paying for this war in Iraq? It’s the American people! Obama wants to plug this sinking ship. McCain wants to continue investing billions of dollars per month(of which we don’t have…just ask China)in this war. PLUS, do you think that Bin Laden used all of their terrorist operatives in this country during 9/11? It would be naive to think so. Could we please focus on the terrorist who has people in our country just waiting to hear of another mission? His name is Bin Laden and again he’s in Afghanistan!
