Ridiculuxe: Own or Rent a Private Island

The ultimate in luxury may be buying your own private island. Can you imagine renting an island in the Bahamas?
Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Steve Martin and Robin Williams have all stayed at The Islands of David Copperfield owned by the magician. Formerly known as Musha Cay, it's a 700-acre island in the Bahamas, and according to The Official Filthy Rich Handbook, you too can rent it at the astounding rate of $32,250 a day. The resort has room for 24 guests. It has a 10,000 sq. ft. manor house perched on a hill overlooking the ocean. There are five guest houses, a staff of 30 including private chefs, a massage therapist, yoga and Pilates instructors, and every imaginable water activity in a lush island paradise.
If you get hooked, you can follow in Mel Gibson's footsteps and buy your own isle. Mel bought a Fijian island for $15 million, Johnny Depp owns a Bahamian island that he snapped up for a mere $3.6 million, and makeup mogul Nars uses his Polynesian utopia, Motu Tane, as a rental -- charging $25,000 to $43,000 a night.
There are islands for sale on the real estate site privateislandsonline.com. If you're ready plunk down your dinero, they have a listing for a 3.4-acre island in Bora Bora, one in French Polynesia for $16.5 million and for those on a budget there's a 180-acre Fijiian island that you can call home for a cool $6.6 million.
