Palin and McCain: $150K Makeovers!

1022palin.jpg

From lipstick on a pitbull -- to designer duds on a hockey mom! The GOP has spent $150 grand on "campaign accessories" -- including clothing, hair and makeup -- since Sarah Palin joined the Republican ticket as the VP candidate!

Palin has been gussied up by her party with $4,700 worth of hairdos and makeup in the past month alone! The expensive makeovers triggered a heated discussion on "The View" today, where Joy Behar blasted the GOP spending, saying, "I don't think Joe the Plumber wears Manolo Blahniks!" Conservative hostess Elisabeth Hasselbeck slammed back, "Are you looking into how much Joe Biden's Botox costs?"

Right-wing radio host Bill O'Reilly echoed Elisabeth's defense, blasting Joy Behar. "Your name is Joy! You should be joyful!" Bill then went on the offense against Senator Obama, saying, "He's a communist. Did I offend you? Okay, he's a socialist."

McCain spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt defended the shopping sprees today. "With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it's remarkable that we're spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses. It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign."

Sarah wasn't the only one getting pampered by the Republican Party -- Arizona Senator John McCain reportedly spent a whopping $8,600 on a professional makeup artist during September.

Those clothes could be donated for an auction and probably raise more money for charity than they cost.

How much money did Obama say he was donating? Oh, I guess he doesn’t need to donate any of his money, because his plan is to support the needy with our money. Great plan.

Give me a break.

What exactly is the issue here???

Hey Extra I saw your report. Why isn’t there information given about both sides? How much money is spent by both parties just to look the part? It would seem the fact the RNC gave Palin some money for clothes means she didn’t already come with the high price tag wordrobe (which I’m sure McCain, Biden, and Obama already had). Please find out how much one of Obama’s suits costs because apparently this is that important of an issue.

Obama/Biden talk a good game about how bad off we all have it while they rake in millions and then use it for lying campaign ads. Which use of money is worse? The millions the Dems have most certainly could be used for something much more constructive.

If John McCain thinks Sarah needs this kind of clothes to be his VP, then why does he not pay for his first wife’s doctor bills! After all he cheated on his first wife after she had been in a bad car wreck. That’s when he met Billionaire Cindy, then cause his first wife did not look like a beauty queen he divorced her and married Cindy. He’s a damn gold digger!!!!!

Oh please. Obviously the Palin’s are not extravagent which is a good sign for the country! Where is the cost accounting on the Obama’s wardrobe and for that matter everything else the Obama camp is spending gobs of money on including misleading, say anything to get elected ads. Don’t be fooled by his eloquent speaking style…choose substance over style. Vote Republican!

You can complain all you want, whats done is done.
I am more interested in keeping that kind of irrational selfish spending out of the Whitehouse. Can you imagine how much four years of V.P. Palin could cost all us tax payers?
Not to mention traveling all over the world for four years with her 5 kids, 1 husband, 1 grandbaby, 1+/- daughters babys daddy, and countless nannies for the whole brood. I am not interested in finding out.
I would have more respect for Palin if she stayed home and raised her special needs child herself instead of running the poor baby ragged in and out of airplanes.
But hey she did score a brand new expensive wardrobe out of this whole thing. Not to mention an all expense paid 2 month long vacation for the whole family. Maybe she’s actually the smart one here???

You Go Sean, Someone need to tell it like it is. No one has mentioned the almost 500 million that Paulson made off of all of us. The 700 Billion Bail out that we will all be paying for. So what that the Rep. Party gave Palin a makeover, what is your problem people? There are more important things to worry about like what did your kids do today? Did you tell your loved ones that you love them? Get your priorties straight.

Extra is no different than the so called news networks on CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC. Obama is their guy and there is nothing he can do wrong. Journalism in this county has died during this presidential election. I can’t believe the bias. It scares me to death that Obama might be our president. Just go to YouTube and look at some videos titled Obama and Socialism. Obama is not what America is all about. Obama’s slogan should be, “Don’t Go To School, Don’t Go To Work, The Government Will Take Care Of You; OBAMA 08.” Obama is a Racist (Jeremiah Wright) and a Socialist (YouTube video of his debate with Hillary Clinton). FACT: 70% of the country’s income tax is paid for by the top 10% income earners (the so called rich). The bottom 40% pays nothing. By the way, Sarah Palin’s spending spree was paid for by the Republican Party, not you non tax paying, government program sucking liberals.

Those of you in favor of Republicans spending $150k on Ms. Palin’s wardrobe: do you really think it takes that much to look good? I’ve had many compliments on my wardrobe and I shop for sales and at discount stores. It’s not the price, it’s the classic styles and getting quality at a real price. What I could do w/ $150K? A LOT more than a couple of outfits. Get real Republicans!

I have wondered why the media is so one sided on this election, it’s all about how great Obama is & have not heard very many good things about McCain or Palin. The media as I see it is on a smear campaign, they want to be the first to go down in history saying they had a part in helping to elect the first African-American President. It’s not about who is the right person for the job, it’s all about how they can further their own career. The media also pushes for Obama, because he has spent so much money in the industry, no wonder they love him so much

Funny enough, I had emailed the McCain team to criticize Mrs. McCain for wearing a $100k+ outfit the evening Senator McCain accepted the Republican nomination. Of course, I never heard back from them. Did they think no one would find out about the expenses for Mrs. Palin?? I think it’s reprehensable that they would outfit Mrs. Palin in such expensive clothes. I agree with Ms. Ferrier’s comment on your site: how can they spend so much money on something so frivolous as clothing when most people are suffering in this economy? I had suggested to Mrs. McCain that she shop at Walmart like the rest of us if she wanted to impress the voters. The Democrats could be just as guilty but we’re not hearing about them, are we? (Could it be they’re not doing such stupid things?). I’m a democrat and I know I tend to harshly judge those who make the news as being extravagent. But we all know Sen. Obama’s backround. I think he can really relate to those of us who really work to make ends meet. Sen McCain suffered terribly during the Viet Nam war and that can never be dismissed. But he married very well, didn’t he? Most of us are not that fortunate. Sen Obama worked his way up. And he rolls up his sleeves like the rest of us. The McCain ticket appears to be trying to make up for their lack of connection with the real world by trying to look good. Hello! Most of us don’t look “good”. Sen. McCain, try looking at the real “American”!!

Okay, so I fail to see the salvation army selling prada and chenille…so donating such clothing would be pointless and just outright STUPID! That is the most ridiculous defense I have EVER heard! In fact, it’s quite funny…Especially since John McCain is a homophobe but yet he lives like Donatella Versa chi…QUEEN, PLEASE! OOOOO HE IS SUCH A LADIE’S MAN, HUH! That’s okay he is laughing stock of the ENTIRE David Letterman audience and that is his OWN fault! What an intelligent man…

Michelle Obamas is an off the rack type woman, she has been seen campaigning (on the View in Black House White Market) her favorite shops are H&M etc. this is an old media covered story during her campaign. I am sorry but the reality for someone who is basing their campaign on trimming the fat 75k at Neiman Marcus speaks volume. In addition I think an acuired wardrobe is a little different then a less than 30 day 150k campaign shopping spree. Lets not forget Michelle is not running for VP. If we really want to talk about whose wife is spending money we all no the answer to that.

Wow, media has gone extreme extents to keep the race card outta the picture when it comes to the candidates. I guess since there is only one woman running for an office, that excludes the “sexist” factor?

Of the nearly billion dollars Barrack Obama has spent already, exactly how much did he provide to terrorist groups over-seas to fund more recruitment and training. “… I will side with my muslims…”

If what media is saying is true (which it isn’t) that Barrack is actually winning this election. An election that has yet to take place, Then we have way to many deaf, dumb, and blind Americans too lazy to do some actual reading! If Obama is your messiah, then television is surely the angels trumpets right?

I’m sick of this on both sides.

Millions on travel is one thing - that’s understandable when you’re going to state to state to state through all 50 of ‘em, multiple times each, over the course of a few weeks with a huge bunch of people in tow.

And TV ads? Those are expensive too, especially when you have to throw one together in response to something within a day or two, again and again and again until election day. Understandable.

But why do BOTH sides - particularly the women - spend so much on clothes and makeup?? There’s no need for that! You could throw together an entire wardrobe even at normal department stores for under $1000, methinks. Certainly for less than $2000. You can get it even cheaper if you’re willing to go to less expensive stores like Ross or other places that basically buy up other stores’ stuff on the cheap. Heck, all those fancy dresses and suits those ladies wear could cost under $200 apiece even if they ordered them custom from independent, everyday AMERICAN dressmakers, who have sites all over the web!

You know what I want to see? I want to see a candidate who gets ALL their clothes from thrift stores and American indie shops. And who does their own damn hair and makeup! Leave the $400 haircuts and $100,000 wardrobes to Hollywood!
