Obama to Hawaii to Visit Ailing Grandmother

1021obama.jpg

Two weeks shy of the election, Barack Obama has announced he is leaving the campaign trail for two days to see his ill grandmother in Hawaii.

The candidate's spokesman, Robert Gibbs, released the following statement to People magazine regarding Obama's decision: "Senator Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has always been one of the most important people in his life. Along with his mother and his grandfather, she raised him in Hawaii from the time he was born until the moment he left for college. As he said at the Democratic Convention, she poured everything she had into him."

He adds, "Recently, his grandmother has become ill, and in the last few weeks, her health has deteriorated to the point where her situation is very serious. It is for that reason that Senator Obama has decided to change his schedule on Thursday and Friday so that he can see her and spend some time with her."

Barack's wife Michelle is set to take her husband's place in Ohio, which is considered a battleground state. Obama will resume campaigning on Saturday.

UPDATE:
The Associated Press has learned that Obama's grandmother broke her hip.

I wonder why his wife didn’t go w/ him. I also wonder if he’s trying to ‘straighten out’ that natural citizen issue about which no one seems to care. People, you got a week to wake up, or it’s time kiss your American(as we know it now) butt goodbye!

What is this “raised him from birth until he left for college” business? What about the years he was in Indonesia at school? I think she must have lost control then…

I can feel sympathy for just about anyone. But to remotely even boast that this man has “character” due to all this is proposterous. Our economy is “suffering so badly” yet have you taken not only a look at this mans wages for the past year, but the spending he has done in this years campaign? Who is really suffering…?

Our prayers are with Barack and his family including his grandmother. Many have said his being away will possibly hurt his chances for the presidency. I think this just shows the character of the man and he is willing to take this chance for someone that is so dear to him. God Bless and have a safe trip and hopefully find your grandmother’s health has improved.
