Misty's Misty Goodbye

Professional volleyball player Misty May-Treanor has pulled out of "Dancing with the Stars" after pulling up with a torn Achilles tendon -- but the 31-year-old will still be rooting from the sidelines.

"It felt like I got hit in the back with a baseball bat," Misty tells "Dancing" host Tom Bergeron of the injury. "I am out, but I am not out of cheering on the competitors and keeping in touch with everybody."

May-Treanor, on crutches and wearing a large cast on her left leg, confirmed that she was going under the knife on Tuesday. "I know that with this injury, I'm going to come back even stronger," she declared.

The net had been abuzz with rumors that Misty would be replaced by ousted dancer Kim Kardashian -- but it simply was not to be. Co-host Samantha Harris said Tuesday's show would shed light on how the competition would progress without May-Treanor.

I know what Misty is going through - it has happened to me and wish her good luck. This is something to happen while enjoying sports - not dancing! It shows that it takes alot of hard work and hours to do this show. It’s not for wimps!

I was crying as Misty announced on the show last night that she’s leaving the competition. And all I can think is if only she had chosen the Viennese waltz instead. It will tear me up to see her in the audience instead of on the dance floor. I was so hoping that she and Maks were going to come out ready to dance last night and the reports that she was pulling out were false. I will miss Maks, too; not only was it so good to have him back, but he and Misty were my dream team. I do hope they will come back later in the season and do their jive, if Misty’s ankle is up for it. Misty’s run on the show was great while it lasted, and she went out in a blaze of glory with an amazing paso doble (which happens to be my favorite dance). Maybe this is good in a way; Misty could sure use some rest after going right from the Olympics to the Ballroom. If only her downtime didn’t have to be so painful. Prayers to Misty that her surgery goes well, and we’ll see her back on the beach and on the dance floor soon.

I will miss you Misty! You were my favorite and I wanted you to win. I’m not watching the show now since you and Maksim are not on the show anymore. You were a good looking couple. Its a shame you and Maksim can’t be on the show and Maks is so cute. Good luck with the surgery and I hope you have a speedy recovery. xoxoxoxoxoxo
