Joaquin Phoenix: Leaving the Silver Screen?

1028phoenix.jpg

"Extra" caught up with actor Joaquin Phoenix, and the "Walk the Line" star dropped a shocker --  is he really leaving show biz?!

Yes! Last night at the Paul Newman benefit, the Oscar nominee told "Extra," "I want to take this opportunity... also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor... I'm not doing films anymore."

"Extra's" Jerry Penacoli, shocked by the news, further probed Joaquin. "Are you serious?" Phoenix, who was curiously being followed by his own camera crews, reiterated, "Yeah. I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that."

Actor Casey Affleck, present during the admission, tells "Extra", "I don't think he's kidding. He's got music and stuff."

Today, "Extra" contacted Phoenix's rep for clarification and got this response: "That is what he told me."

Umm..if he had wanted to quit acting because he didn’t win the oscar..he would have quit a few years ago. But nice try.

Its a sad day when such a talented actor decides to walk away from his gift. Few actors bring a character to life like Joaquin. I’m no movie critic but the roles he has played are believable and thats the connection for any movie goer. Oh well I guess I will have to listen to his music instead. If its anything like his Johnny Cash role, WOW!

I doubt being pissed for not winning the Oscar has anything to do with his decision…how lame…..but he did deserve to win that Oscar more so than any of his contenders…he did a fabulous job in Walk the Line.

First off, it’s spelled douche-bag, but since your a guy, we’ll overlook it. However, why say that? He can do whatever he wants same as you. He’s one of the good guys and I think it’s great that he’s decided to spread his talent around. He’s been in the movies for most of his life - remember him in Parenthood with Steve Martin - he was only about 12 in that movie. Given the path that his brother River took, I’d say he’s turned out to be a pretty smart guy and there really isn’t anything bad to say about him. Good luck to him!

Check him out with Vince Vaughn in “Return to Paradise”. Unbelievable performance. My boyfriend thinks the same with me. He is eight years older than me. lol. We met online at Agelessmatch.com , a nice place for younger women and older men, or older women and younger men, to interact with each other.

I agree its a shame he’s such a talented actor, however, when its not “fun” anymore you should quit. Plus maybe he needs the chance to explore what else he’s good at..Besides I can see where you have to go on talk shows and be asked the same stupid questions or questions that are personal. Then you have people always taking pictures, always in your business, sometimes enough is enough… He’ll be greatly missed as an actor for future films, but is emortalized on his past achievements..Who knows maye we’ll see some great music from him.. I wish him the best..

He’s an exceptional actor, but he’s trying to get his personal life together. I’m sure he wants a family life, and it’s hard in today’s society to maintain a healthy relationship. He has to follow his passion.

I thought he was a great young actor. I too hope he changes his mind and does not dismiss acting all together.

Its a shame. What a waste of talent. His role in Gladiator still gives me chills….I had thought hed make a good villian for one of the Batman movies.
