Damon on Palin: No Regrets

1024damon.jpg

Matt Damon had harsh words for VP candidate Sarah Palin last month, calling the possibility of her becoming President "absurd" and "like a bad Disney movie" -- and said he has no regrets, telling "Extra," "I completely stand by what I said."

The staunch Democrat, who recently traveled to Haiti in support of Bill Clinton's relief efforts, stands firm against Palin -- but surprisingly, Obama's staff has convinced him to rethink his tactics! "They say, 'Stress the positive, that's how you can help us,'" he explained.

Matt is in San Francisco for the star-studded One by One Foundation fundraiser, where he spent the day handing out food to the needy. An "Extra" Friend asked him via webcam, "What made you choose this charity in particular?" and Matt said, "There are so many kids that are vulnerable here at home and around the world... I just like the fact that One by One tries to focus on all of them."

Staying on the positive? Not so hard after all!

NEXT: Are You Working Out to Death?

Matt Damon is an actor for crying out loud. The good thing about this country is we can all voice our opinion …. I disagree with the personal attacks! He does not KNOW her anymore than I know him. BUT I can choose not to spend my money on any more movies that he makes.

OBAMA: Said that if families get a $5,000 tax credit for buying health insurance and the insurance then costs $12,000, that’s a loss for them.
THE FACTS: The tax credit offered by McCain is more generous for the vast majority of people than the current tax break, which they would lose, according to the Tax Policy Center. Now, people don’t pay taxes on the health benefits they get from work. Obama’s statement gives the impression that $5,000 is all that workers will be getting to help them pay for a health plan, but that’s just what the federal government will provide. Economists say most employers would still contribute to their workers’ health insurance. The Lewin Group, a health care consulting firm, found that by taxing health benefits but providing a tax credit, the average family would come out $1,411 ahead.
**********
OBAMA: “Every dollar that I’ve proposed, I’ve proposed an additional cut, so that it matches.”
THE FACTS: The bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates that his programs would add $281 billion to the deficit at the end of his first term. The analysis includes Obama’s proposals for saving money.
**********
OBAMA: “One hundred percent, John, of your ads — 100 percent of them — have been negative.”
THE FACTS: The statement is true when it comes to McCain’s current commercial spots. But by saying McCain’s ads “have been” 100 percent negative, Obama ventures into misleading territory. McCain is currently running all negative ads, according to a study by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. But he has run a number of positive ads during the campaign.
**********
OBAMA: “I want to provide a tax cut for 95 percent of working Americans, 95 percent.”
THE FACTS: Obama constantly says this. But the independent Tax Policy Center says his plan cuts taxes for 81.3 percent of all households in 2009
**********
OBAMA: Said he would be “completely supportive” of late-term abortion restrictions “as long as there’s an exception for the mother’s health and life.”
THE FACTS: Obama leaves himself a lot of latitude in this answer. A woman’s “health” has been so broadly interpreted that it can include conditions, including psychological conditions, that are difficult to diagnose or prove. Anti-abortion advocates say that makes the ban meaningless, because it leaves too much subjective judgment in the equation
**********
OBAMA: “We can cut the average family’s premium by $2,500 a year.”
THE FACTS: If that sounds like a straight-ahead promise to lower health insurance premiums, it isn’t. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggested cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it’s not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.

What a tool Matt Damon is to toss himself in waaaaay over his head into the political arena!(lord knows he can’t get a good movie role anymore)

This punk kid will obviously do anything for some TV time. Much like the campaign he is in ka-hoots with! He comes across an ignorant liberal idiot, and knows absolutely nothing about any issues. Sadly much like many Obama supporters, he knows nothing about any true agenda that Barack Huessein Obama has in store for this country.

Hey Matt do the Obama campaign a favor and KEEP TALKING! What a puttz.

Who gives a flip what Matt Damon thinks on issues of American Policy?? What does this knucklehead know about the “middle class”? Perhaps he “hangs” with the Barack Obama middle class,.. those making 250,000 dollars??

Matt is a washed up loser of an actor. Does so many ‘B’ movies he’s frustrated with the small take he gets from such movies. Again, we should “vote” for whom the Celebrites want as President? Are we as americans truly that stupid? Scary.

Betsy Lou, when did you hear on Extra or any other show what the democrats are spending? I never heard any show say that Obama spent $2,000 for a Marx suit and is buying 5 more. I read it in my newspaper. Michelle Obama spent $300,000 for her wardrobe for the campaign. Read that in the same article. Did Extra or any other media report that the Obama’s had lobster, caviar and champagne for an afternoon snack at the Waldorf Astoria? Is any media picking apart the Democratic candidate for things he says or does? I think not.Isn’t that one sided? I watch the news and Extra every evening and all I ever saw was Matt Damon mouthing off and Ron Howards video. I would bet that EXTRA has not even contacted any celebrity who is for the Replican side to come on the show. If they did, those people must have more class by keeping their opinions to themselves. It is ok for EXTRA to have their segments about being a LUXAHOLIC and the lifestyles these celebrities have but not ok for Palin to get new clothes that she did not pay for,and is giving back to be auctioned off for charity. That is not one sided????

He is no smarter than I am, his opinion is of no value to me…I am sick and tired of these people who get paid an astronomical amount of money to simply pretend to be somebody else thinking that their opinions are more important than mine….get over yourself. Work as a nurse for a few weeks saving lives and then tell me that your opinion is worth more than mine….I’ve yet to make over $24,000 a year compared to your millions….I do things that you couldn’t imagine doing…I think I can make my own mind up as to who will take better care of me and my family Thank You very much…..

Hey Extra - are you trying to tell me that there are NO celebrities that care about moral values. They all talk about helping children - but yet they’re willing to allow babies to be killed in the womb - I know - they’re inconvenient!! Just the same with all of them going “green” - but yet they ride around in limos, jets, and yachts! I was raised as a Democrat - but the party has changed - it used to be in the best interest of the people - now it’s what’s best for “me” as an individual. Make my life as easy as possible, what “feels” good. We’re in a sad state and these celebrities speaking out just prove it!!

I am so sick of all you people. What gives you the right to bad mouth others?
You don’t care about anyone but yourselves and the money you make.
Start thinking of the good in people
and get off talking trash about Palin.

I wish celebrities would realize that candidates don’t necessarily want their endorsements. If celebrities insist on supporting a particular candidate, then they should say positive things about the candidate’s views…not bash the competition. That’s ignorant and immature. Better yet…why don’t celebrities stick to what they’re famous for. I don’t care what they think anyway!

Hey, JayMax
I’m glad to hear that you do something for the needy instead of mouthing off. But, the other issue. It’s not all
one sided you are only one sided by saying just that.
Have a Good Day I have to leave for now.
Maybe I’ll see other views from you, until then :-)

Betsy Lou, you are WAY off. These celebrities know that alot of their fans hang on to their every word and think that if their favorite star(s) are for or against someone or something, they must be right. The media is only picking up on what democrats of all backgrounds are saying and this is all onesided. For people to come right out publicly with their nasty comments shows their ignorance. They should keep their nasty comments to themselves. They no nothing about the person they are blasting. Vote if you have an opinion on a candidate.
As for me, I donate food, money and clothing to people less fortunate than me so I rest my case…you know nothing about me anymore than these celebrities know anything about a candidate.

Hey,
These movie stars are entitled to their opinion on who they would like to see as president just like you. Oh, because they’re movie stars they should staple their lips together and just say what you want to hear? So, you don’t like what these movie stars have to say. You just like looking at them as long as you don’t have to hear what they think or have to say. Also, you people who keep putting these stars down because they don’t do enough for the poor as you might think, what have you done for the poor or are you just expecting the rich and movie stars to do it for you? Think about that one or keep being the uneducated one.

Hey Extra are you getting money from the DNC to show support for Obama? Why don’t you do what you do best and report fluffy news about celebs that have clue about real life. And if you really do your homework there are actually conservative people in Hollywood but that would take away your money wouldn’t it.

Good for Obama’s staff!!! I wish these stars who voice their opinions about candidates would realize that the candidates don’t necessarily want them to. I don’t think Obama likes it when people say negative things about the opposition…he wants people to say positive things about his views. Sometimes the celebrities do more bad than good for the cadidates by opening their mouths…they certainly don’t help thier careers any. Stars…shut up about poitics…it’s not your area!!

Seems star power is a weakness these days—from Madonna to Cruz to Matt Damon. They are disintegrating before our eyes—repulsive creatures.

I won’t support any more of his movies either. I never really cared for Matt anyway. Saw him in Good Will Hunting and the first Bourne Identity movie. That is it for me. Sesame street is too mature for Matt…how about Romper Room?
All these big mouth celebrites should do something more constructive like help the homeless of this country or work with youth groups…something MEANINGFUL instead of thinking they know who is better to lead this country. Don’t relate a candidate to someone you do not like who happens to be in office at the present. Just because they happen to be with the same political party, doesn’t mean a thing. And just because they are not a smooth talker, it means nothing. Remember, it was the serpant who talked EVE into taking a bit of that apple!!!!!

Unfortunately, he’s just demonstrated his lack of maturity…based on his comment, his maturity level isn’t even suitable for a Disney movie. He should focus on Sesame Street for future filming opportunities. I, for one, will never again pay money to support a movie he is in.
