The Incredible Shrinking Starlets

0918stroup.jpg

Hollywood has always been full of waiflike actresses -- but the starlets of "90210" have become so pin-thin that whispers about their tiny frames have become a roar -- causing Beverly Hills alum Shannen Doherty to defend her young co-stars.

"They just have amazing bodies. Deal with it," Shannen tells "Extra" of Shenae Grimes, 18, and Jessica Stroup, 21 -- who have become the focus of the skinny scrutiny. "You can't single out girls that you don't know anything about and decide they're too skinny... I watch them -- and they eat."

"Extra" lifechanger and "Work Out" queen Jackie Warner shared quite a different perception. "This girl's quadricep is about as big as my bicep -- she needs to have a leg that is larger than my arm," said an incredulous Jackie. "Here's the one dangerous aspect of being this thin for too long -- you permanently slow down your metabolic clock so you mess up your metabolism for a lifetime."

Talk on the set seems to share Jackie's concern. Us Weekly's Aimee Agresti says that the other kids of West Beverly are growing concerned. "The boys in the show may stage an intervention," she says -- before sharing this 9021-oh-so-telling secret from the show's set. "The wardrobe department on this show only has clothes that range from size double zero to size two -- it's pretty tough."

these girls are way too thin. i have a 13 yr old niece who is struggling with anorexia and i hate seeing these type of young girl role models. i’m tired of it being acceptable- even expected or sought after. i am in fear of my niece dying & meanwhile these girls are on every cover or tv news program propetuating the horrible ideas of what it takes to have people take notice of you.

Just because you see them eat Shannon, doesn’t mean they’re keeping it down. Both girls are past skinny. Is Jessica Stroup the girl who used to play on the show Reaper? If so, she is obviously smaller. I saw the last show when she had on the skinny jeans, and it was disgusting and disappointing. She looks terrible, and she is such a pretty girl, it’s sad. The bosses in hollywood or the stylists, or whoever is pushing this crap should STOP IT. There’s a difference between being thin and being emaciated. Like another poster said, this look is just like the heroine chic look of the recent past.

Girls, dress size doesn’t matter! What the scales say doesn’t matter! What matters is feeling good, being healthy and strong. Why would you want to look like a victem of drug abuse or starvation? Take care of yourselves!

These girls ARE too skiny. I’m not saying this from a medical stand-point because I am not a medical doctor, however I am saying they are too skinny in regards to the fact that they are on TV and are role models for many young girls. This stick-thin appearance is NOT a healthy influence for the youth of today’s society. Young girls should be encouraged to have a healthy body weight…implying what is recommended by dieticians…im quite sure that excludes being able to see their vertebrae…thats NOT healthy.

I think you have to blame the CASTING AGENTS in tv, film, and theatre for only casting overly thin actors as leads. If actors want to get cast, they are forced to find ways to get skinny. Ask them to explain why they do this! Please!!

Some women are naturally thin! I am 5’7 and 108 pounds and have been that way my whole life. Perhaps these girls are just naturally skinny… Wait until one of them faints on set and then start to worry.

As a mother of a 16 year old bulimic these girls are WAY too thin. My daughter has been sick for two years now and has permanently stunted her growth and her metabolism is so slow that even if she tries to be healthy and eat, she gains weight quickly. She’s lucky if she has her period every three or four months. Here life will never “normal”. Something seriously needs to be done about the world’s weight obsession, especially in Hollywood!

I have 4 granddaughters and I think this sends a wrong message. These girls are sickly to thin and the show will be off limits for my family. What happened to TV. Most of the familys I know that have kids that watch will re-think watching. Bad roll modeling. Goes along with all the other reasons not to watch TV………….

Oh PLEASE! These girls soon to be offically and formally WOMEN, are nothing less than smoulderingly-smoklingly hot hot HOT and give me thoughts that would a priest straight to confession.Well, a heterosexual priest, that is (do that species of human even exist?). “A um,” (clearing throat), excuse me! They’re hot people: get with the program!

Horrifically thin! These girls have such pretty faces, its obvious that they are not naturally thin if they put on at least 20 lbs they would not only be pretty, they could be healthy role models for young girls and live longer lives.

Growing up i have always been singled out for being too thin. it makes me feel horrible for girls like these who may just naturally be this way. I have always been naturally skinny and i’ve tried to put weight on just to feel normal, but its really hard for me to gain weight. I don’t think that people should be critisized about their weight whether they are too fat or thin.

GIVE those girls a break! It seems like nowadays girls who are really skinny are just assumed to have and eating disorder. Some girls are just naturally skinny. I have always been naturally skinny, no matter what i eat. Imagine how these girls may feel being critized if that is the way they naturally are

Yes they are too thin. Look at the example that fashion week’s models presented. They all looked very anorexic!!! It is telling girls that they have to be that thin to look good!

they are way too skinny. its so gross that it distracts me from the ‘plot’ of the show. i like how on the premier annie only held frech fries and at lunch had a cup of salad and only ate a tomatoe with a DIET Dr. Pepper

90210 girls are beautiful But they are too skinny they are sending the wrong message to the teens…..At leat if they were a size 2 or 4..
It’s time for a possitive change don’t you think……

I would say how tall are they, what is their bone structure (sm, med, lg). If they are over 5 FT with med structure, then they are skinny. If they are 5 FT with small structure 90 to 100 lbs is OK. But I agree with some of the comments, some women are just to thin and are not a positive role model for the younger audience.
