Streisand: McCain Choosing Palin is 'Desperate and Irresponsible'

0909babsmccain.jpg

Political activist Barbra Streisand took to the Internet with some fervent political activism -- and Funny Girl is not amused by John McCain's veep choice of Sarah Palin!

The outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter ranted in her blog about McCain picking Palin as his running mate, calling the choice "desperate and irresponsible." Babs also accused the GOP nominee of pandering to women who may go for the ticket simply because Sarah "has two X chromosomes."

Streisand, who threw her support to Obama when he landed the nomination -- will be hosting a $28K per plate benefit for him in Beverly Hills.

NEXT: Did Babs Play Fair with John McCain?

I think the whole state of California should be excluded from the US. They are not Americans in my book. They have no feeling for anyone but themselves. If
they have the money to sponsor 28,000 plate fund raisers then put that money where it could be used for people that need it. I have no tolerance for Hollywood creeps.

I was a babs fan but no longer.I will throw all her records out.She needs to shut her loud mouth. I am sick of her irresponsible words towards a woman who has way more values and principals than herself.

Barbara who? “Desperate and irresponsible” defines both the Democrat party and N.O.W. right down to the ground, with “hypocritical” thrown in for good measure. How many “sisters” have been demonized if they don’t agree with these junior socialists. You never HEAR of pay equity any more unless it’s during an election cycle. Is pay equity only for liberal women?

Like many women, I’ll just go on with my day and vote McCain/Palin. The Democrat platform, message and candidates are socially embarrassing.

Barbara, I loved you as a singer and actress until you started using your voice to say stupid things. I am ashamed that I own so many of your records. I haven’t bought anything by you in many years. What makes you think you have any right to spout off about politics? Do you have any education in that field or are you just another liberal Democrat that would vote for that yellow dog? C’mon, think - since the Demo’s got into congress a couple of years ago, everything has gone downhill. That’s what happens everytime then it takes the Republicans eight years to try to recover. Hopefully, this time, McCain can keep that from happening. It’s funny that no one has criticized the situation in Afghanistan - do you remember who started that? I’ll bet you’ve got your mouth shut now. Keep your big nose out of politics - that’s not where it belongs.

America, wakeup. You know that what Barbara is talking about,in my opinion hit the nail smack on the head.McCain choose Palin because in my opinion,of the Oil,and to try to fool Women’s in voteing for him.Where do you peoples come from? have you had enough of 8 years of nightmares under this Republicans Policies ,and this Administration, and since they don’t have substance that will really place Country first, instead of special Interest group, they can’t do anything else but to attack Senator Obama, which is the only Canidate that can mend the fabric of our Country back together again, and heal our Country Wombs, and restore our Credibility around the World,Yes America Barak Obama is the right Man to be President OF The United States. And since God is in control,he has,and still is raising up Obama. This election in 2008,is not about lies,or trying to tear someone down like the Republicans did John Kerry, because nothing unjust will work this time, because this is spiritual,so Republicans just sit back, and watch the Savation of the Lord.

Barbara’s comments do not infulence me one way or another. She should stick to singing and stay out of the political arena. All she spouts is Typical liberal fodder.

Barbara used to be respected by me. Her talent is a blessing she should use for entertainment only. Her political views are ignorantly given as if we care! I wish she’d stop thinking she’s qualified to stick her opinions down our throats. I will never respect nor support her again. She should buy an island and govern it.

And by the way…if you feel this persecuted in the US…I’ve heard Canada has opened their boarders to political refugees! There are so many other communist counties to choose from so please don’t turn ours into another one!

Babs…keep babbling because the majority of Americans don’t cares about what you think. You are so out of tune with our society’s needs and values. This is crazy - I’m still trying to figure out how you’re opinion has become the focus of media attention. Have you ever run for political office or attempted to change society outside of spouting your views? “Desperate and irresponsible?”

I believe it’s desperate and irresponsible for the media to spend time offering subjective-celebrity-heavy analysis to the American people. Come on now!

McCain is now running for votes based on Palin.I hope the truth about Palin is not swept under the rug just for votes for McCain. I think its a shame Palin daughter is a role model for our youth. Why not teach her responsibility rather then marriage. A lot of republican women who support Palin if she was not running for VP she would never be invited to there home for tea.We need to know the truth about Palin. I know the pictures on the internet about Palin is a disgrace for the US. The only reason McCain just starting using the word change is because thru Obama he realize the people in the US want change. The only change McCain/Palin ticket will bring to this country change from Bush/Chaney to them. The McCain/Palin is like a soap opera. You can become any thing they create you to be in a fake world, But this is real what has happen to our ecomoncy. If Obama/Biden not elected to change this country we can look forward to a third world country in the next four years. It’s time for CHANGE from the republican party to the democratic part.

I have heard it said that if barbra Streisand does’t like it it must be good for the U S. She is out of the real world like an ostrage with its head in the ground.

a little history lesson, when my grandfather returned from ww1, he would not talk about what he had gone thru for years. he would only say that we would be fighting these wars forever because they were all about religion, power and greed. my father was killed in ww2, my peers in the korean and vn wars. now we could have said to no to europe when they came begging for our help. that would have only kept us out of the war until they hit our shores. i have a lot of friends in europe and they are still thankful for our help and say the only ones bashing our country are politicans in our own country. now god knows congressman and senators have made huge mistakes for decades in this country. taking the I out of responsibilty was the greatest.
the welfare system has cost us more than all the wars put together and will cost us for years to come. each time washington said, here let me help you, it cost us. the choices you make in life and the chances you take should not be anyone’s responsibilty but your own. i have to feel sorry for b.s., because she just throws words out there that make her look ridiclous.i live in chicago, and what the “good ole boys” are upset about is, MCCAIN did not follow their script. they put hillary down and thought it was over. if you want the country to be as corrupt as chicago is, then vote for barrack. then the whole country can live in our nightmare.

I am in the U.S. Army, and this is a reason why we fight. So that everyone can voice their opinions freely. But people like barbara are what makes me sick. Their is a difference between stating your opinion and being an extremist. She doesnt think about whats right for the country she only thinks one-sided, and that democratic no matter what. The last thing on her mind is her country. Hollywood and its celebrities, not all of them but the ones that act like they have a degree in political science, need to keep the bias out of their comments. Lets see barbara streisand come ship off to iraq and fight then she can say whatever she pleases.

I totally agree with Ms Streisand’s point of view. The issue of leadership in case of something happened to the President. The same tactics before the son of a Bush got elected (?), misleading and lying to Americans just to get elected. Think America, do you really want another 4 years of what we have right now, highest rate of unemployment, down economy, unequal pay for women, poor health care, etc., etc., etc…Way to go Ms Streisand!

I, too, wonder why Disagree votes are not being tallied in this poll. I don’t think they are being counted as Agrees, but they should be counted and displayed as well. On the subject of Streisand and Palin: Steisand has had a superlative voice, even if not quite so much any more. Sinatra’s voice faded, too. Still I think for myself, not relying on what any celebrity says, though they have the right to speak out as all of us do. I am horrified by a ruthless, vicious woman like Sarah Palin getting anywhere near the White House. Since when do we admire someone who likens herself and other women to pit bulls? She isn’t called Sarah Barracuda for nothing. A lot of people in her small hometown of Wasilla, where she was mayor, have found disagreeing with her puts them and their jobs on her hit list. She has no conscience and no ethics, is not truthful about her actions and policies in the past, and as her husband is said to be a long-time member of the American Independent Party, which wants Alaska to secede from the United States, apparently has agreed. She told their convention only six months ago to “keep up the good work.” She will say and do anything to get what she wants, which is why McCain apparently chose her, apart from being a woman. Curious, isn’t it how the Republican Party doesn’t want her interviewed by news shows unless they are “deferential” to her—meaning don’t ask her any of the questions they would of a male candidate. Doesn’t say much for McCain’s character, already nothing to brag about once he did get out of the North Vietnamese prison. I respect his surviving that ordeal, but…Cheating on his first wife, taking out a marriage license with his second before he even told his invalid first wife he was divorcing her; and then likely marrying an heiress for the money to promote his political ambitions. I feel sorry for both women, more sorry for the country if this also ruthless man sets foot in the White House. He’ll be another Bush—he votes with Bush 90% of the time—and our country is in such bad shape now from eight years of Bush. We just can’t afford any more catastrophe from McCain.

Go Babs!
I absolutely agree with you. It was an irresponsible choice and totally politically motivated.

I, for one, am sick and tired of everyone comparing Palin to Obama. She IS NOT running for President! She IS running for Vice President. The one she should be compared to is Joe Biden.

The real question here is, who would be ready to take over and lead this nation if something should happen to the President? If you ask that question it’s Joe Biden hands down. He has been a US Senetor for more than 20 yrs and is on the foreign affairs commission.

Just a week or two before Palin was chosen she was asked if she was excited about the fact that she was being concidered and her answer was, “I have to find out what the VP actually does”. When asked about the war in Iraq her answer was, “I really haven’t been following it”. This from a mother who’s son will be going to Iraq this month.

She has only been on the scene for two weeks and she has already lied numerous times. Lied about the bridge to nowhere. Lied about firing her chef. Lied about selling the jet on ebay. Lied about Obama having 1 billion in earmarks when the actual amount is 300 million. Lie after lie after lie.

Another thing. If she is such a bulldog or pitbull or whatever kind of she dog she’s supposed to be and if she is supposed to be soooo tuff, where is she? Why can’t she stand on her own four legs?

If the republicans have sooo much faith in her, why won’t they let her talk to the press. What is it that they are afraid of? I know exactly what is happening. Palin knows nothing about about anything and now they are giving her a crash corse on foreign issues and everything that an experienced VP candidate should know. They are anticipating questions that may be asked and are no doubt drilling the answers into her head. On the campaign trail she has been reading the same old speech that was written for her for the convention with a few variations her and there.

The time has now come for her to go it on her own. I hope, for the republicans sake, that she is a quick learner or they may find themselves in a world of trouble.

Streisand should seriously shut her mouth. No one cares what she thinks or says - she is a has been - it’s been what 20 years since she had a hit - She’s just pissed because mCCain won’t let her in the Lincoln bedroom like the Clintons did. Tell her to climb back under the rock she’s been hiding and sleep it off.

I’m so tired of “Hollywood liberals” thinking they have all the answers. Just because they have the money and free time to bash a true American hero, and a perfectly qualified V.P. choice, doesn’t mean we have to listen to that garbage. Please just leave the USA Babs, since you don’t seem to be a patriot anyway. Please vote republican so we can happily prove this woman wrong, again! Thank you.
