Simon re Clay: 'Good for Him'

0923cowellaiken.jpg

"Extra" caught up with "American Idol's" Simon Cowell, who when told Clay Aiken had come out to People magazine, jokingly responded, "Wow, that's a shock. It's like being told Santa Clause isn't real -- unbelievable."

Cowell then softened and encouraged Aiken with "Good for him. If he said it, it's the right thing for him. Good for him." As for how Aiken's fans will react, Cowell opined, "I don't think anyone cares. Let's face it. It's 2008. You know, who cares?" Did Aiken really ask Cowell to be the godfather of Parker? "No," Simon dishes, "I don't know him well enough, and I think I'd be the last person on Earth he'd call."
*N Sync alum and now dancer with the "Stars" Lance Bass, also openly gay, had encouraging words for Aiken. "I think it's amazing. He's probably heard it all before... He's just going to be living his life like he wants to. Everyone's going to be very supportive and he's going to be the happiest he's ever been."

Bass also revealed that Clay's sexual preference probably wouldn't affect his female fan base, saying, "I swear, when I came out, I had more female fans."

Like this is news…the first time I saw him…I knew….It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out this one.
I could care less about his sexual preference. I feel very, very sad for the children that grow up in these households….

Good for you, Clay! Living a lie is far too difficult and stressfull. I know that when I finally came out to friends and family I found a sence of peace and fullfillment. You have an amazing talent and bring so much joy to so very many people. And you’re right…you can’t raise a child with lies. God bless you and your little one!

I am happy Clay was able to make an announcement at a time that was right for him and now hopefully the media can focus on what’s really news and what entertains people. Clay is and has always been talented and unique and is a genuine person. His success has more than proven the fact that he should have been the American Idol. I will always be a fan. I know talent when I see it.

I just wanted it to not be true but if that’s what he wants then so be it. We should all respect whatever he decides I mean he has a kid involved.

It was only a matter of time. I’m happy that he finally did it; it must be a load off his mind. He’s getting plenty of support from his fans, so he had nothing to be afraid of. You go, Clay!!!

good for him, and even though he is worried about his fans thoughts, he shouldnt be cause fan wouldnt care, and many people will support him 110% (me) so yeah.
but to be honest i dont think this shocked anyone, im sure many of us already knew this before hand; but good for him to ammit it, cause after all he is a celeb. and so like the whole world knows him and it is a lil harder to come out then maybe someone who isnt cause there is a MAJOR difference in the number of people that would know;
so yeah.
good for you Clay!

Did it ever occur to anyone the reason he “kept lying about it” is because he was scared no one would support him. Let’s face it, people are mean and not so accepting. He’s great no matter what.

Kudos to Clay…..I think he should have come out earlier, with all the positive outcome of gay marriage and gay rights, he’s right in step. I also hope that he will be a good father.
