Baldwin Admits Thoughts of Suicide

Superstar Alec Baldwin has fame, fortune and a successful career -- yet he contemplated taking his own life. Baldwin and his "30 Rock" one-liners make fans laugh, but behind the humor, he suffered from suicidal thoughts.

The star revealed to Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America," "I would pray to God and say please don't let me wake up in the morning. A lengthy custody battle with ex-wife Kim Basinger, and last summer's fuming voicemail media spectacle made Baldwin think his life wasn't worth living, but Alec did not want give up on his only daughter, Ireland. "When I'm with her, I'm happy," he said. "It's one of the only times in my life that I'm happy."

Baldwin believes he suffers from parental alienation syndrome. "There are women who get divorced in order to punish, out of this bitter, bitter hatred that some of these women have for their ex-husbands... they turn their children against them."

Alec's memoir, "A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce" will be in bookstores this Tuesday.

Ever since I heard his rant towards his daughter, I can’t stand him.

I won’t even watch Third Rock because he’s in it, even though they say it is the funnest sit-com on T.V.

Clearly he has issues why anyone cares i dont know? suicide i think not he loves himself to much it is just a ploy for sympathy. but really to all celebs out there get a grip and grow up you all have everything you have been so blessed yet continue with the drug and etoh abuse. drugs alcohol suicide i wouldnt ever consider it and yet i have 4 kids a higher education and no job or any viable leads on a job or how my bills will be paid or food for the week. so try walking a mile in those shoes or how about all the american’s who have lost their homes. our country is in a crisis weather rep.or dem. we should be focusing on a solution to this problem so forgive me if i have no sympathy on over paid celebs and thier self induced problems. also didnt alac say he would leave the country if Bush got elected why is he still here? no sympathy from me for you celebs. also all that worship them need to grow up!!

Alec Baldwin fits the profile of an angry abusive person. He’s very defensive and he showed no remorse for his behavior. He was full of excuses. Abusive people always point finger at everybody else but themselves. The problem is obvious Alec…you have major issues and you need to get help for it.

Alec seems to have the personality of a person on drugs..seems to run hot and cold alot…maybe some counseling would help.

I don’t think Alec has learned a thing from his stupidity with what he said to his daughter. He can swear up and down about how sorry he is, but if it had never been aired, I’ll bet he never would have apologized (or did he?). What he said is something that will be with her all of her life. She will never be able to forget it. This is not the first time his mouth has gotten him in trouble and I don’t think it will be his last. I really do not believe he had any thoughts toward suiside. If he were really sorry I don’t believe he would have said, “I don’t think about it anymore.” He wants to sell his book. I’m not buying, and I won’t watch anything he’s in.

Alec your angry and obviously a poor example of a father (see message left daughter Ireland).
Please close your mouth and open your eyes. Its your behavior that is appalling. The fact that you can’t just apologize and move-on lets us all know how deeply this affects you. I feel for you. Stop lashing out and hurting others.

I have experience this custody situation/battle, my daughter still does not speak to me, as a result of her mother’s brainwashing. We were never allowed to have a relationship, due to her mother inconsistant behavior. I made it point never to diss her mother. My daughter is now 32 with two children who I have not met. IT IS A SAD SITUATION. Mr. Baldwin has my graditude, for addressing the issue and the courts, need to address Ithe issue of parental alienation. I can only hope that my daughter saw the interview, and will consider a reconcilation.

I think Alec Baldwin needs to go to therapy. There is still a lot of anger in him.

I THINK ALEX LOOKS AND ACTS LIKE AN OBNOXIOUS JERK. HE IS NOT FRIENDLY NOR DOWN TO EARTH BUT VERY EGOTISTICAL AND PRIDEFUL. CALLING YOUR DAUGHTER/SON A PIG SHOULD NOT EVEN BE SAID ONCE. I BELIEVE HE WROTE THIS BOOK TO TRY TO CLEAR HIS BAD REPUTATION AND TO TRY TO CON PEOPLE INTO FEELING SORRY FOR HIM-NOT!

When are you going to have Cindy Mc Cain on to talk about her “home cookin” ideas?
I know that you are not one-sided on your exposure of candidates wives or are you?

Come on, as parents, WE ALL make mistakes. Just because he is a celebrity, don’t chastise him. As everybody else states, we feel sorry for him and his family. LEAVE IT ALONE. LET THEM HEAL. Don’t use it as fill in dirt.

Parenting is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Alec Baldwin is one of the most honest, sincere persons on the planet. He is not a robot thus like all of us at some time, he overreacted due to his frustration with his ex and daughter. He learned from his mistake and is entitled to our compassion.

Alec, I know in your heart that what you said to your daughter was probably out of frustration with the entire situation. I too found myself having suicidal tendencies but my daughter was my lifeline. She took sides with her dad probably because of my stereotyping her dad because of his infidelities but I hid that from her and she never knew why. She was 9 then and is now 18, in college and still lives with her dad but we have a much closer relationship now so hang in there and time will heal all wounds.
