Obama Clarifies 'Lipstick on a Pig'

0911obama.jpg

Senator Barack Obama appeared in David Letterman's hot seat last night -- and cleared up the "lipstick on a pig" comment that has caused so much controversy.

"It's a common expression in at least Illinois," said Obama on "Late Show with David Letterman." The Senator emphasized that his use of "lipstick on a pig" referenced what he considered McCain's faulty policy ideas -- and the GOP trying to pass them off as change.

"Just calling [ideas] change, calling them different doesn't make it better, hence lipstick on a pig," said Obama. "I had meant it this way; [Palin] would be the lipstick. The failed policies of John McCain would be the pig, just following the logic of this illogical situation."

The presidential hopeful also dismissed rumors that Bill Clinton would be part of an Obama cabinet -- but became excited when the possibility of the former prez campaigning for him came up. "There's nobody smarter in politics," said Barack. "I think he can be a great advocate for the campaign."

NEXT: Gina Gershon Spoofs Palin

Sophia, you are SO ON THE MONEY. Why is it that no one heard his many slip-ups about that and other parts of his life? There are too many ‘guilty libs’ running the show around him, protecting and pacifying, ignoring his shortcomings, letting him slide (with not handing over records, and so on), while magnifying others’. But you know, I think, in the end, if he keeps opening up his mouth, slipping and insulting, dodging and hedging, etc, he’ll hang himself w/o ANYONE’S help.

People wake up!!! Who are you kidding? Are you scared of CHANGE? Lets get to the issues, I don’t care about Palin and McCain and all the bull—— they are making up and dishing out every day. Why can they say what ever they want and Obama has to watch what he says? Truth hurts doesn’t it? Lipstick on a pitbull, I thought she was referring to herself being a pitbull but because she wears lipstick it is all right to bash other people she knows nothing about. The speech was scripted and she doesn’t even have her own opinion on what she wants to think or say. She is not all about country she is about PRESS. And what about this community organizer , seems like Bloomberg has taken on this so called new Service Nation thing that sounds just like community services that Obama thought of himself as a young person. MMMMMMM seems like Obama has a LOT of good ideas, after all if you put both the Democrat and Replubican convention speeches back to back, you can see what McCain copied from the Democrat convention. Hellooooooooo WAKE UP !!!!! WE are not all stupid, give us some credit !!! Slamming peoples’ personalities is not a have to thing in politics.

You knew what you were saying Obama! You are nothing but a evil person and have nothing good to say about anybody. To bad you didn’t pick Ms. Clinton for the VP. You may have had a chance. She was a LADY. You are a nothing!

When is America going to wise up?? another republican in the white house spells disaster for everyone, should mcain die (God for bid) would you want in experienced Palin with her five kids running around the white house when the country is under fire? think on that!

Mcain is definately being double standard here, he used the same comments to describe Hilary and it was not seen as sexism…why the double standard now??

the bottom line is..which is so said is that America does not want a BLACK president and that is so sad!

That comment was taken all out of content. When Palin made her comment about about the lip stick, all republican thought it was funny but when Obama, a democrat, made a slimiar statement its bad. I believe Palin was referring to Obama in her statement, since they want to stereo type everything a democrat says.

I think what he said made him look bad, whether it was are wasn’t for Palin.

Anyway, I would like everybody who reads this to have moment of silence to remember 9/11/01.

We shouldn’t be suprised. Thats how many women are treated in his religion that he won’t admit to, although its well known. If he’s elected, we’ll be forced to walk around with traditional Muslim attire in no time. Electing him will be a huge change…about 100 years in reverse for women! Why would we ever EVER think to elect someone who belongs to a hate group, has done nothing for this country, insults women and lies about his own beliefs. That sounds just like the person I want in charge of this country. We have come too far!

Are you kidding me? Of course you knew what that comment was referring too! Especially after Palin’s remarks about being a “pit-bull with lipstick” at the Republican convention 4 days earlier. It is not that common of a saying and your speach writers know that. I have a feeling it was on all of your minds when it was written. Mr. Obama, you are not a stupid man and you are extremely tactful and well versed. Don’t think for a moment that the American people can be fooled into thinking you “that’s not what you meant.” Imagine for a moment if Obama had choosen Hillary for VP. Do you think McCain would have gotten away with a comment like that if he had referred to the Obama/Hillary policies? I don’t think so. Double standard, anyone?

I will say this, it is so nice to see the celebrities coming out to defend their candidate since he’s dropped in the polls. How nice!

That remark by Barack Obama has nothing to do with Sarah Palin. John McCain had said that remark many times and when Obama said that remark, MaCain try to link his remark with that of Sarah Palin. “Putting Lipstick on a Pig” was a catch phase of Mc Cain for many years. The american people should know that.
