  • Born in Brussels in 1946 to a Holocaust survivor mother, she married Austro-Italian Prince Egon von Furstenberg in 1969 and became a princess!
  • Launched the iconic wrap dress in 1972, and by 1976 sold an astounding five million dresses -- landing her on the cover of Newsweek. Divorced Egon in 1972.
  • In 1976, published "Diane von Furstenberg's Book of Beauty."
  • Was a fixture at Studio 54 and disco buddy, Andy Warhol, painted her colorfully mod portrait.
  • Company faltered in the late 1970s. Twenty years later, DVF struck back, selling her brand on QVC, and in 1998, with the help of daughter-in-law Alexandra, the clothing line (including the timeless wrap dress) was re-launched. Her magnificent flagship store is in New York's meatpacking district.
  • In 1998, DVF published her fascinating memoir, "DIANE: A Signature Life."
  • Married longtime love, Hollywood uber-exec, Barry Diller in 2001.
  • Her wrap dress is in the permanent costume collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian.
