Luxe Gadgets: Google's G1 Phone -- An iPhone Wannabe?

The new T-Mobile G1 Google phone hits stores on October 22. It costs $179 with a two-year contract. With its slide-out qwerty keyboard, the G1 has been described as a "beefed up" Sidekick. But like its iPhone competitor, it's got GPS, 3G and WiFi, a touchscreen, Bluetooth and an "accelerometer" motion sensor.
What makes this mobile different? It's powered by Android, Google's new software platform that allows easy access to Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and Maps. With one click, you're at Amazon's MP3 store (the G1 holds up to 500 songs), or downloading ogle-worthy Google apps like "ShopSavvy" -- which allows you to do comparative shopping by scanning barcodes with the phone's camera, and "Ecorio" which tracks your "carbon footprint" based on your recent travels. How eco-luxey is that?!
Google your local T-Mobile store and check out the new G1.

T-mobile has pre-ordering available for t-mobile customers only, but flex pay customers don’t qualify as customers so we have to wait until 10-22-08 to get the G1
