Letterman Blasts McCain's Bail-Out

0925letterman.jpg

David Letterman let loose on John McCain after he suspended his campaign -- and pulled out of a scheduled appearance on "The Late Show!"

"This just doesn't smell right," Letterman declared. "Somebody's putting something in his Metamucil... I have nothing but the highest regard for this man, but when you call up at the last minute and you cancel a show... that makes me think, well, maybe there'll be other things down the road if he's in the White House... he might just suspend being president!"

The comic riffed about the cancellation, saying, "John McCain had to cancel an appearance on the show because he is suspending his campaign because the economy is exploding." He also took a light jab, saying, "You know John McCain, the running mate of Sarah Palin?"

Then, Dave got miffed after hearing McCain bailed on him to sit down with CBS anchor Katie Couric. The funnyman then cut to live video of Couric's interview with McCain, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?"

Today, GOP camp spokeswoman Nicole Wallace stated on NBC's "Today Show" that the campaign "felt this wasn't a night for comedy." She added, "We deeply regret offending Mr. Letterman, but our candidate's priority at this moment is to focus on this crisis."

McCain says he bailed on Letterman to tend to the country's economic crisis -- leaving Dave with a crisis of his own. Do you think the Senator, a 12-time visitor to the show, should return?

John McCain should NOT reschedule an appearance on Letterman. Letterman has been a pro-Democrat for as long as I can remember. His recent snotty-cheap-shot comments about Sarah Palen further evidence his open bias. I stopped watching his show when he openly belittled Bob Dole when he was running for office. Letterman is a loser who’s ratings will continue to go down as he continues to “broadcast” his political preferences.

Dave,

As far as I’m concerned… McCain does not deserve to be allowed back on your show.

McCain doesn’t deserve the airtime. As if by skipping Letterman he actually accomplished anything to fix the Economic Crisis. Just another Republican Bag of Hot Wind.

Enough of the excuses McCain. The Press and we people of America need to know NOW how you intend to run the country if elected. Bush is Bad…You are WORSE !!!!!!!!

What would be so important about David Letters show when that’s all comedy vs what’s really going on in the USA. It’s time we take it serious and leave the fun and game for another time.

Our economy has been in shambles for a very long time; a fact that McCain, as well as the rest of the nation, is aware of. NOW McCain thinks is a good idea to do something about it and decided to cancel an appearance at the last minute? McCain should have done himself a favor and appeared on the Letterman show; after all, who really watches Couric?

Amy, the scheduled appearance on Letterman was yesterday…….they weren’t meetin gin Wasington until today….come on, stop making excuses for someone who is trying to take advantage of the serious situation on Capital Hill to do some political posturing and get some points on trying to be “Presidential”….a President doesn’t change his mind every ten minutes according to the latest news and polls?!

Hm…Katie Couric or Letterman? Thinking…hm…I’m going to go with the credible NEWS anchor rather then the entertainment-commentator. Let’s just see if we can get things in order and then worry about free advertisement.

CWright - canceling an “appointment” with Letterman? I’m not sure this qualifies as an “appointment”…it’s more like free advertisement for the campaign. A campaign he’s suspending to go back to WORK! Did you guys realize that senators take a leave of absence when on the campaign trail? Since the ecomony needs immediate attention - and since congress hasn’t been very productive - I think it’s great that McCain went back to work. What’s funny is that Obama told the press that Washington didn’t need him back (his advisers told him to stay out on the trail) - “things are fine and they don’t need you.” Then - the President call him and told him to get his tail-end back to DC to get back to work! It’s nice to see him take orders to well! Great leadership!

I’m tired of folks making excuses for McCain and McCain making excuses……as I said before,”WAKE UP PEOPLE”! If John McCain and Sarah Palin continue to make excuses for not meeting with folks and canceling appointments to make other appointments. He’s even gone so far as wanting to cancel the debates….it’s just another reason why we can’t trust anything he says…..he’s always looking for a way out….WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!

Wow, George Jobson, I believe you have finally topped yourself!! “Cancelling his appearance on Letterman was a bad move”??? McCain is not interested in such banal and trivial things as little late night talk shows, and kissing celebs’ boots, like b.o. is. He’s ACTUALLY running for president of the UNITED STATES, and as such, has to make decisions based on order of importance - to the country, not to sore-loser (OH, NOW I CAN’T EMBARRASS MCCAIN ON MY SHOW - WAAAHHH!)Letterman. George, try reading some of these other posts; they are wonderfully encouraging, and most commenters actually understand - they get it - you don’t. You’d better hurry, though, you don’t have much time!

I think David Letterman was justified in saying what he did. He commented on his bravery saying this was out of character for him and he was right, and its his show he can do whatever he wants. You say you’re going to be somewhere then be there. Don’t back out the last minute and do another interview. I’m sure he’s worried about the economy like everyone else but who ever is telling him what to do are making bad choices for him, because it doesn’t look good not showing up there and saying i don’t want to do a debate because of what’s going on. He doesn’t want to do a debate because he’s probably not prepared so he’ll try anything to get out of it.
David Letterman is a smart articulate man and what he said he had every right to say and he said it with humor, because in the light of things even with the economy as messed up as it is now, you just have to take it one day at a time like the rest of us are trying to do, so Mr. McCain shame on you.

Dave you are just another overpaid loopy liberal trying to use his star power to belittle McCain…really Dave, why would John McCain pick you over a world crises…get your ego in check! I personally think you are an IDIOT!

Well, let’s turn it around. If OBAMA had canceled, I am sure Dave would have thought that was the right thing to do. I believe Dave thinks a little too highly of himself. I have news for him, his show is NOT important!

Dave letterman show is not known for serious topics it is entrainment show, that skirts around issues with humorous innuendos, I like watching the show but its not the place for serious political discussions. Our country is in a precarious financial situation, I feel Katy Couric interview is more appropriate place to be having this type of conversation. People need to know what is going on in congress right now and what a presidential candidate is trying to accomplish regarding this country’s financial status. His place and priorities should be in Washington at this time as well as anyone in congress’s with voting power at this time, not on late night comedic talk shows. Letter man needs to take a step back and realize what is accruing in his country he should be supporting someone who is taking an active part in a resolution. Honestly would you take McCain seriously on the letterman show regarding our economy or a national news program with Katy Couric? More important things going on then having a date with another candidate to state opinions at the moment, Hello! does a recession or possible depression, ring a bell with anyone?

I love David Letterman, but shooting the breeze with him on the show is not important. McCain did the right thing. He put his country first that is what is important.

i guess the mccain/palin tandem have this understanding that they make lots of excuses coz maybe…..dunno what to say?..No word of honor for McCain…can’t he say what he needs to say to Dave that he has to tell it to Katie? oh….maybe he felt that Dave will only “make fun” of him…or maybe Dave is to tough for him….He’d rather have a woman interview him…i’d say this too… “Canceling his appearance on Letterman was a bad move.- George Jobson”

Dave needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. There are more important things going on right now in this country than grapping about a guest not coming on his show.

Our economy is in a shambles and David Letterman is whining about John McCain not coming on his show?! Talk about out-of-touch!
