Letterman Blasts McCain's Bail-Out

0925letterman.jpg

David Letterman let loose on John McCain after he suspended his campaign -- and pulled out of a scheduled appearance on "The Late Show!"

"This just doesn't smell right," Letterman declared. "Somebody's putting something in his Metamucil... I have nothing but the highest regard for this man, but when you call up at the last minute and you cancel a show... that makes me think, well, maybe there'll be other things down the road if he's in the White House... he might just suspend being president!"

The comic riffed about the cancellation, saying, "John McCain had to cancel an appearance on the show because he is suspending his campaign because the economy is exploding." He also took a light jab, saying, "You know John McCain, the running mate of Sarah Palin?"

Then, Dave got miffed after hearing McCain bailed on him to sit down with CBS anchor Katie Couric. The funnyman then cut to live video of Couric's interview with McCain, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?"

Today, GOP camp spokeswoman Nicole Wallace stated on NBC's "Today Show" that the campaign "felt this wasn't a night for comedy." She added, "We deeply regret offending Mr. Letterman, but our candidate's priority at this moment is to focus on this crisis."

McCain says he bailed on Letterman to tend to the country's economic crisis -- leaving Dave with a crisis of his own. Do you think the Senator, a 12-time visitor to the show, should return?

I agree with Dianne R. Letterman needs to just get that his show is not the biggest priority on the planet.

McCain did the right thing.

Hey Letterman - boooo hoooo

McCain should offer to come back on Letterman, but Letterman should refuse.

David Letterman should get over himself. McCain certainly made the right choice. Appearing on Letterman’s show at time like this would have been a slap in our countries face. Letterman grow up!

I don’t think McCain should be allowed back on the show! What? The news being taped at the time he was scheduled to appear was more important than HIS COMMITMENT. That is not presidental to slight your commitments just to “Show boat”.

David Letterman, take a chill pill and stop tripping over your ego. You’re in entertainment. Be the funny man and get over it.

take a page from your toddler ..stop it! and no!

David Letterman is a tasteless, classless Boob. He’s so full of himself that he thinks his needs should come before the nations’. Get a clue you self absorbed narcissist. Not everything in the universe is about you.

I meant to say CBS - not NBC

The world does not revolve around david Letterman as he would have you believe. I do not understand why he is even on a show, except he ownes a big slice of NBC and can decide what shows are ok. That’s why NBC’s ratings are so bad and he is so far left that I wonder what he drinks while he is doing his show. It is a shame the things he can get by with saying and running people down who might disagree with him. I hope he retires soon and has the courtesy to put Craig Ferguson in his place as Craig is one hundred times funnier.

John McCain should not go back on David Letterman after the disgusting comments he made about him. David Letterman should be glad that John McCain cares about our country enough to put his campaign aside and take time to work out the best resolution for the American people. David Letterman needs
someone to put him in his place once and for all.

I think things arise that sometimes one cannot help but to cancel or reshedule things. McCain is as human as the rest of us. I do not think McCain should return to the Letterman show because David was such a smart mouth. I do feel McCain is the best canididate to run for president, he has the most experience, and he certainly understands what is like to be at war.

I think McCain did the right thing, how can you think about anything funny when your country maybe facing resession? I think McCain shows that as he has said from the beginning Country Comes First!

David Letterman is a spoiled child. The country is going through an economic crisis and he’s worried about his bookings????? I’m sure a variety of celeb fluff subs would have gladly stepped in. I mean, isn’t Paris on Letterman tonight?

Letterman is just like all the other odd balls in Hollywood. He is soooo Obama. McCain should not even give Letterman the time of day.

Letterman, bite the big one.

I do not think John McCain should ever be on David Letterman again. (it would be worse than “The View”) This left leaning show host is way out of line. Since when is a TV appearance more important than this country’s economic state. Letterman has an very inflated view of himself and his show. My husband and I will never watch him again.

I would hope that John McCain would not ever appear on Letterman…last night’s show was a disgrace, and the sad part is that Letterman thought he was being cute…Letterman does not deserve a visit from John McCain…John McCain has too much class to be on that show.

McCain made the correct choice!!! Helping to keep the country from “crashing” or having a “conversation with David???

I think John McCain is imploding because this economic crises is spelling doom-and-gloom for his candidacy. You know how the “old guard” syndrome affects your persona if you’re aligned with the bad folks! Seriously, this is not a way to handle a crises. This is “2008” for pete’s sake—you should be able to multi-task. If not, there’s a retirement home that might have vacancies! David, please don’t invite him back—you may have to call the EMT’s for rigomortous setting in!

Letterman is sooo much to the LEFT on his nightly comments - why should McCain honor him with his appearance.
I would recommend to McCain to never come onto Letterman’s show.
