McCain Picks 'Hockey Mom' for VP

0829mccainpalin.jpg

GOP Presidential nominee John McCain has picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his VP, a self-styled "hockey mom" and little known Alaska governor.

Palin, 44, is a first-term governor, pro-life advocate, former beauty queen -- and hockey player. She's been described as "tough as nails" -- and when she was young, her father reportedly took her moose hunting in the middle of the night.

She is the first female running mate on a Republican presidential ticket.

The pick comes as a surprise, as Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was thought to be the top choice.

Sarah is a mom to five -- Bristol, Willow, Piper, Track and Trig, who was born in April with Down syndrome.

If Palin seriously changed your mind into voting for McCain.. then I have a serious question for you: HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE?! Choosing a woman just because she’s a women IS SEXIST! I would love to see a woman president or vice president someday, but it must be THE RIGHT ONE. Did you know that Palin has NO EXPERIENCE? And that could be very dangerous with McCain being 72 and a history of many health issues! And Palin is completely pro-life with NO exceptions?! And she is for big oil and could care less about the environment?! And even if you agree with her opinions on the issues, it shouldnt be about HER opinion.. it should be about America’s as a whole and what is BEST for the people! Obama is just an ordinary guy taking a stand and trying to bring change TO the white house rather than FROM. This is a DEMOCRACY… remember?! I don’t understand how anyone in their right mind could be against supporting Obama.

I am a resident of Arizona and have supported John McCain for many years. However, now that he is the Republican nominee for President his choice of Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate has stunned me. I love the Southwest and all the wild places and native creatures that inhabit those unique places, so our native Mexican Grey Wolf is very near to my heart. Sarah Palin has supported the aerial gunning of Alaska’s native wolf population for the enjoyment of so-called “sportsmen” worldwide. Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration I no longer support McCain!!!!!!

Janice (Aug. 29) Your words inspired me so much - thank you! McCain has always proven to love the US, and would ONLY choose a VP who felt the same.Any inference to the contrary, is just more pathetic sour grapes. It’s the OTHER candidate, who keeps forgetting he’s not running for the SAG presidency, who would make a chess game out of this entire convention. He’s not even pretending to lull us into a false sense of security - he’s proven to have the same disdain for this country as others who dislike us. No matter what anyone says, 1. Vote for the safety of the country, cause, guess what? You live here. 2. If you enjoy living here safely, do not vote for anyone who does not love the place he is courting to lead. 3. You’re not going to agree w/ EVERYTHING a candidate says or believes, but pick your battles wisely.

Palin completely changed my mind. Sorry Obama, no matter what the pundits said after the Democratic Convention you never sealed the deal with me. Actually, if McCain had selected pretty much anyone else besides Palin I probably would have voted Obama.

My voting status is “independent” and I vote for who ever can get the Job done.
Actually, I think that both Republicans and Democrats should be kicking them
selves for nominating
McCain and Obama! I mean really I know that there are better Republicans and
Democrats! What were they thinking?
History…History…I think that’s what it’s all about! And personally I do not “dig”
that! I mean how silly can we be!
Anyways McCain now has my vote! I think that Palin is down to earth. Also,
I think that with fresh eyes comes new and fresh changes!

Good Luck McCain/Palin!
I agree with one other person! We do need to bring back God’s laws!!Our country
needs it. And God’s will, will be done

This is just another example of the right wing’s putting politics ahead of national security. This woman is under investigation for (and governor of a state that is plagued with) corruption. Such a pick challenges the common decency of our intelligence.
John Mccain should be ashamed of this pick; if elected MRS. Palin would be a national security risk due to her lack of experience.
If Mccain really wanted to move our country forward he would’ve picked Hillary Clinton; a woman of great experience and knowledge.

Sarah Palin met with John McCain in FEBRUARY and has been on his list since then, way before Hillary was out of the running. He made a great choice. A GOVERNOR of a state has way more experience than a JR SENATOR does! Obama may have more experience as far as years in politics but what she has done in her shorter years of political service definitely outways what Obama has accomplished. You go girl! I was a Hillary supporter who changed my mind to McCain PRIOR to his running mate announcement today. With Sarah Palin at his side, it just solidifies my choice of MCCAIN/PALIN as my choice for President and Vice President! This is the change I’m looking for!

To all of the Hillary supporters that are now voting for McCain “just because the VP choice is a woman”, think about the issues at hand and get a clue…were you supporting her just because she was a woman or because she stood for what you believed in. If it’s the latter, you cannot with a clear conscience vote for McCain. If you are voting strictly on gender…God help this country!!!! I’m quite confident there will be a woman in the white house someday, but forcing the issues is dangerous!!! I for one cannot afford that type of action.

For a canidate that accused his opponate of being inexperienced this takes the cake….she was a mayor of a town of 9000, what was McCain thinking…that women are so stupid that they are voting just for a woman and not what she stands for ….and to answer a comment I read here…your party did not let you down….the american voters did….. I hope everyone will do there job in making up their won minds about their choice for this historic election….do your research, don’t believe everything the media feeds us or that you receive via email…..vote on intrigrity of the person, what they have demonstrated in their own life, not on race, religion or gender….

God Bless American…..we are so far from what we set out to be so many years ago….

What an absolute coup!!! I’m an independent, undecided. I was fond of Hillary, can’t stand Obama, especially after he proved how un-changed he was in his pic for VP. He pathetically choose the low-hanging fruit/perceived safety before his entire platform on change. What change? We now have 3/4 white Dem. ticket and 100% male. That dash of arrogance doesn’t win over my vote.

McCain just proved he is for change, not by copying Obama’s VP choice, but raising the bar and having the guts to take a stand. He responded to America’s voice for a true change in politics, the message every Hilary supporter sent by voting for her. This nation is absolutely ready for elected women in the White House. Ready to change the sweltering sexism that has plagued over HALF of this nation’s population of every race and color.

McCain has shown himself to be an unabashed liberator to the most oppressed segment of society in the history of the world and Obama instead cowardly shirked his duty to hear the voice of the women of America! His back-pedaling has already begun, his candidacy just had a huge hole punched in it that is rapidly filling with criticism.

Undecideds, independents, republicans, and even democrats will be flooding over to the Real man in this campaign, one who can admit the right woman is absolutely capable to do any job.
