McCain Picks 'Hockey Mom' for VP

0829mccainpalin.jpg

GOP Presidential nominee John McCain has picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his VP, a self-styled "hockey mom" and little known Alaska governor.

Palin, 44, is a first-term governor, pro-life advocate, former beauty queen -- and hockey player. She's been described as "tough as nails" -- and when she was young, her father reportedly took her moose hunting in the middle of the night.

She is the first female running mate on a Republican presidential ticket.

The pick comes as a surprise, as Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was thought to be the top choice.

Sarah is a mom to five -- Bristol, Willow, Piper, Track and Trig, who was born in April with Down syndrome.

NEXT: I'm Going to Disneyworld!

In my opinion Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air to the Republican Party. I welcome her and inspite of not knowing a lot about her, Sarah’s story is one that I, and many women can relate to. We are moms who attend the baseball games,, go to PTA meetings, serve in the community kitchen, meet the girls once a month, work and spend time with a husband/friend. I’m excited about her and very anxious to know more about Sarah in the days ahead. Eventually my goal is to join forces with her and the Republican Party to help heal America’s hurts the world over. New direction, new insight and new thinking is imperative for the new administration.
So more American families can realize the American Dream, I pray the new administration will institute a Family Week”. It has been proven that a family that work and pray tpgether will stay together. Let’s start at the top and trickle down frm the White House to our houses new ways for all families to realize the Americn Dream within their family system.

I’m very excited about the days ahead may God bless all in this world.
Go Sarah go.

I think it is an insult to all women. To assume that throwing her in as VP would be just compared to all that Sen Clinton had to offer. What he is saying is any old woman would do. And considering his age, wouldn’t we definitely want somone in the VP position that has experience?

Apparently Her 17 daughter is 5 months pregnant and “planning to marry the father”
Every day it’s something new and I think there’s more to come.

McCain knew about it.
This hole thing stinks of hypocrisy

Palin seems like a very nice woman, but hardly has the experience to be a heartbeat from the Presidency. McCain is using her as a desperate gimmick, a token on the ticket. A real shame after Hillary Clinton advanced the chance for a qualified woman to become President. It’s time that old men like McCain with a 50’s view of women are put out to pasture.

Now they’re saying her last kid is her daughter’s.She took her out of school for 5 months, Palin never looked pregnant, and she delivered somewhere off is some clinic, then went back to work 3 days later…And this is coming out of Alaska!!!!!

MCcain what have you done???

Govenor Sarah Palin is a friendly, outgoing person who pulls no punches and has outspoken honest opinions…which shows why she has cleaned up the Alaska state government in 20 months.

She can start to clean up Congress while President McCain can focus on world and USA problems.

Senator Biden would just be again in the midst of his old buddies and Congress would be the same….pulling the Obama puppet strings.

Sarah Palin’s mother-in-law, Faye Palin, as saying she’s not sure which way she will vote.

“I’m not sure what she brings to the ticket other than she’s a woman and a conservative,” Faye Palin tells The Huffington Post.

I, and millions of others, btw, went to parochial school, where CREATIONISM was taught — by women sometimes in PANTSUITS!!!! It may be against your own beliefs, sure, but ‘weird’ - you know, this is still basically a christian country, even though there are many other religious and non-religious people living here, free to choose what to believe and what not to believe. It’s weird that you think it’s weird, actually. Those laws you’re talking about, are laws, alright, but way east of us - you know, the people who despise us for our very freedom…

Yea, I was excited about her at first. but the more I find out the weirder this thing gets. Like she wants Creationism taught in school instead of the theory of Evolution.
Next she’ll try to pass laws saying no pants for women and stoning women who disobey their husbands.
Geez what was McCain thinking?!! There were so many other more qualified Republicans.

yrk - not many religious people believe in THE THEORY of evolution - that’s part of the whole ‘believing in God and how He created everything’ extravaganza!. Just two different belief systems, that’s all. Remember, here is where we’re ALLOWED the freedom to believe what we choose. So, please, don’t be shocked.

Wait one second! She doesn’t believe in EVOLUTION!!???? Where does she believe all those fossil came from?
I don’t believe in abortion but I’d never force a rape victim to have it. And this is McCain’s choice? I am shocked.

anon - it’s just as ridiculous and dangerous to say,”vote for someone BECAUSE he’s ‘black’” (in my book, he’s bi-racial; we must celebrate ALL that we are)as is it to say,”vote ‘for war’”.That excuse is just an attempt to oversimplify the situation. Unfortunately, I do know people who’ll vote for barack because of his heritage - no denial is believable. I also know there are those who vote according to whom the celebrities they like endorse!I’ll bet if the celebs actually kept their mouths shut,(they know NO more than anyone else) a lot of people would be spouting their OWN opinions, rather than what is thought to be ‘cool’. The truth is, we ARE at war, and I want to feel as safe as possible, knowing that my president is not just going to think he can stop it in a snap, like a game of cards. Every important decision has to be met w/ great thought - not a series of cliches that everyone wants to hear. There’s no way to be all things to all people all the time. That is phony, unrealistic, and perilous.

So you want to save your ‘unqualified’ voting for president, not vice-president. There, I’m sure, (why it isn’t apparent to you yet, is beyond me, and beyond dangerous)you’ll find the insulting arrogance that you’ve misplaced onto the shoulders of people who ACTUALLY care. Good luck w/ that! How did you enjoy the Emmys - uh, I mean, the DNC?

Does McCain really think women are so shallow and so stupid that they would give their vote to someone so unqualified just because that person is a woman especially when there are other woman with the credentials fitting this position. How insulting and arrogant of him and the party to all of us making up “the 18 million cracks” let alone our country as a whole. As a woman I’m apalled but as a once undecided voter I’m actually thankful.I can now cast my vote with confidence that the best canidates will be in charge of this great country of ours. And that for sure won’t be McCain & Palin.
On a side note, can’t wait for the debates.

If he was absolutely PERFECT some Americans will not vote for Obama. He should stay in his place…be a rapper or a Basketball player or maybe a cleaner. How dare this ignorant arrogant fake “Man” dare try to be President!
The languaged changed over the years, but it’s still the same thing. The bottom line is those people would never EVER vote for a Black person. They long for the “good-ol days” you knew where you stood…there were signs saying “Whites Only”.
Vote for MCCain, you vote for war, which might not be so bad. It will get your minds off of the economy and the fact that people are losing their jobs and homes. But McCain will find them a nice tent IN IRAQ because he sure won’t be putting anyone in his 10 houses!!

well…i guess McCain must have thoroughly thought about his choice of Palin…..well she will be the best “replacement” for a woman to at least be second in command….since Hillary didn’t even make it(nominated as Obama’s running mate) maybe this move will get the undecided Hillary supporters to go McCain’s way…..Just a thought from a Canadian….

This pick is hysterical in it’s stupidity. the ONLY thing that is more bizarre is the fact that people actually think it will woo women voters and change the election. The woman is a turnip. I’ve followed her for awhile. The only thing more amusing is the fact that Republicans are gleeful. Well, so are we independents as we watch the Party of Torture die.

GO McCAIN!!! I was going to vote obama but not now!! The more I find out about this woman you met ONCE, the more I like her!!!!!!
Palin is Anti-CHOICE on abortion even in cases of INCEST AND RAPE.
Sued because they put Polar Bears on the endangered species list because she wants to hunt them.
Doesn’t believe in Evolution so we can get RID of all those fake dinosaur bones
Wants to drill off shore and in National Reserves for oil
And best of all she wants the Bible’s Creation of the world taught.
Got a man FIRED because he wouldn’t fire her ex-brother in-law.
Believes there’s no such thing as global warming
And best of all she’s not some UPPITY Black man who doesn’t know his place.
GO MCCAIN 08!!!! heeehawww
