McCain Picks 'Hockey Mom' for VP

0829mccainpalin.jpg

GOP Presidential nominee John McCain has picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his VP, a self-styled "hockey mom" and little known Alaska governor.

Palin, 44, is a first-term governor, pro-life advocate, former beauty queen -- and hockey player. She's been described as "tough as nails" -- and when she was young, her father reportedly took her moose hunting in the middle of the night.

She is the first female running mate on a Republican presidential ticket.

The pick comes as a surprise, as Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was thought to be the top choice.

Sarah is a mom to five -- Bristol, Willow, Piper, Track and Trig, who was born in April with Down syndrome.

Oh, FRAN: You’re right. Hillary was REAL good at handling people, like her own husband. At least, teenagers have an excuse for errors in judgement; they’re still learning- he’s actally someone’s version of a grown man, who’s supposed to know right from wrong. THANK HEAVEN Palin isn’t like hillary! BTW, regarding your last sentence, it’s oobama who wants THAT!

If people vote for Sarah Palin because they think they are getting a republican version of Hillary Clinton they are sadly confused. Sarah is no Hillary. Not even close. Sarah can’t even manage her own teen daughter let alone a whole country. Pictures of her dragging her kids every where she goes physically makes me sick. When her daughter has her baby she will have two kids to take care of and the government will pay her wic and foodstamps to take care of both kids.

obama can’t even be honest about his religion. He refuses to produce vital records. He won’t vote either way on issues, but let’s not mention his stance on transferring wealth, or ‘instructional’ schools. He’s spent most of his ‘senator time’ campaigning for pres. His allegiance is clearly not w/ us - READ HIS BOOK. Plus, lately, he acts like he’s running for pres. of the Screen Actor’s Guild, instead of the US. He keeps talking about how he wants CHANGE, and the change he wants should scare the daylights out of most sensible people, because how we live is what he wants changed. McC & P may have different views than some people, but they’re not trying to shove those views down our throats. That’s the diff. btwn. conservative and liberal. W/ the latter, you can be as free as you want, as long as you agree w/ them. Even conservative celebs keep their opinions private (which is more appropriate, by the way!), while the liberal ones cannot find a way to shut up about voicing their opinions. Even in the most unrelated of venues, they’re still proselytizing non-stop about their choices. NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE.

Does it bother anyone that obama said he’d side w/ muslim over christian, if it ever came down to such a choice?

Ordinary women don’t have a household income of $250,000. And she never sold the plane on E-bay. It took 6 college enrollments in 3 states to get a bachelor degree. Her daughter certainly isn’t going to move to Washinton when she is a senior in high school so I guess the husband will remain in Alaska to work and provide a home for the 17 year old. I don’t see this working at all.

Obama’s grandmother raised him. It is not an issue that Palin is a mother of 5, it is the fact that she has an 8 month old baby boy with down syndrome, that requires exceptional care. She also as a mother will need to be there for her 17 year old pregnant daughter. Not to mention the other children. It is likly she will fail her family, or her country that she loves. If she were to stay in Alaska as Gov, then she is more accessible to her families needs and still have a fruitful career. I respect Palin’s ambition, but at this time family should come first above all.

Palin will be a great VP. She’s an accomplished and beautiful woman. The media including EXTRA should stop tearing down her family. Why did Obama’s family get covered as if they were angelic—-even though his mom was once a 17 year old pregnant teen herself? Let’s see a little fairness and less bias in your coverage—PLEASE!

Obama will NOT get my vote..because he was too stupid to give the VP spot to the person who deserverd the nomination. Kudos to McClain…never voted Republican, but will because of this. So what if she is not seasoned…and Obama is???

Wow! I never saw so many comments.

I don’t like McCain or Obama really because their both so opposite. The only reason I would pick Obama is because he would end the WASTED WAR. As for him being black, could careless if he was blue. I just hope he isn’t to good to be true. I hope if he becomes the president that it is not a trap. And I hope that this, so called ‘HOPE’ comes true.

The reason for McCain because he has more experience and doens’t have the name Barack HUSSEIN Obama II.

If it was me, I would pick Paris’s idea. Because it is the most intelligent thing she has ever said and is the only one that makes sense.

But really I think we need Offshore drilling to keep gasoline prices down. I think the idea is good as long as the people of the U.S. is getting it. I am so tired of less and less American stuff being made elsewhere.

But do need earth friendley ideas such as Hybrid Cars, solar power, windmills and watermills.

But I think the problem with Solar Energy is you need a lot of panels and plus there not the prettiest thing. Also they get very hot which will make the earth hot creating global warming.

The best things are watermills and windmills. They two have the same problem with not enough power. But they don’t absorb the sun’s heat. Plus there a lot better looking.

As for hybrids they help.

But we really need another form of energy instead of oil and electricity

P.S. Don’t listen to anything I am saying change your mind on voting. You pick who you feel will be the BEST PRESIDENT.

My vote is not so much in support of McCain or Palin as it is against Obama and Biden. I frankly don’t give a rat’s *** what her problems at home are, or who’s taking care of her children. I am furious at the Democratic Party and this is my ONLY way of letting them know how upset I am. My vote, my families votes, my friends votes are all going, for the first time, to the Republican Party. If the Dem Party can turn their back on Hillary Clinton, then I certainly can turn my back on them.

As a mom, the more I think about it, the madder this makes me. Why on freakin’ earth did Sarah Palin accept the nomination and put her family in the national spotlight if she knew about this? To me, that’s child abuse - to make your child be the center of national attention at a time like this. I don’t condemn Sarah or her daughter for the pregnancy - just for putting ambition before motherhood. You can spout all the family values in the world - but returning to work 3 days after having a baby is NOTHING to be proud of. Now the daughter MUST MARRY the father at 17? Putting your child in the national spotlight when she’s obviously pregnant and making her the center of speculation - that’s just totally WRONG.

I have been a marriage and family counselor for 25 years and an advocate for the Republican party since the first time I voted at age 18. I am so surprised by Palin’s run for VP. I am also a mother of 4 grown kids and 2 small grandkids. I know how hard it is to raise a family. She has a son headed to Iraq, a pregnant unmarried 17 year old daughter, a tiny baby with Down’s Syndrome and 2 other small kids. How in the world is she going to handle the emotional, physical and mental demands her life as a mother is going to hold over the next 4 years? Her kids need her more than her country does. Her husband is a professional fisherman- no way he can continue his career in Washington DC. In my opinion, this marriage and family are headed for disaster. If we vote her into office, we are hastening her demise as a woman, wife and mother. I have never voted Democrat and still have some issues with Obama, but I will be voting for him in November because as a counselor, mother, wife and Christian woman I do not feel like I can, in all good conscience, now vote for McCain. Where were his advisors- bad move Republicans! (by the way, my Repub friends and coworkers all agree with my stance and concerns!)

This is simply a ploy to get women voters. Sorry, but a beauty queen turned gun-toting soccer mom isn’t exactly someone I can relate to. Her principles are as far from mine as you can possibly get.

I have voted Republican for many years. Unfortunately, I will not be voting for McCain/Palin this year. His choice for VP was not the right one for me.

an ordinary woman my foot!! IT’S A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT SHE AND HER HUSBAND “FARM HER CHILDREN OUT”, TO RELATIVES. An ordinary woman wouldn’t THROW HER UNWED PREGNANT DAUGHTER UNDER THE BUS, JUST TO REMOVE GOSSIP. IT MUST BE HARD ENOUGH FOR THE GIRL WITHOUT SUCH A SELFISH MOTHER USING HER CONDITION.
SHOWS BAD JUDGMENT ON SARAH PART. TO RUN FOR SUCH A HIGH PROFILE OFFICE IS HER RIGHT, BUT SHOW A LITTLE COMMON SENSE THE MEDIA IS GOING TO FIND OUT EVERYTHING. WHY NOT SUPPORT YOUR KIDS FOR A MINUTE. AND GOING BACK TO WORK 3 DAYS AFTER GIVING BIRTH IS NOT A GOOD THING. ALL SHE’S TEACHING HER KIDS IS I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR YOU…
