Love of the Label: Tips for Luxaholic eBay Shoppers
Dyed-in-the-online-wool luxaholics have been scoring hot label bargains on eBay for over ten years. If you're searching for that Marc Jacobs jacket you passed up last season, or hankering for a fab Fendi clutch that's already vanished from shelves, make sure you check eBay as your go-to source for luxe designer buys. And for you skeptical, brick and mortar diehards -- eBay isn't just for chatchkas and Star Trek dreck, it's the place to go for high end fashionable finds at discount prices ... just don't tell everybody!
To make sure the items you buy are, in fact, what your little luxe heart desired, follow these pertinent pointers to ensure the smoothest of online transactions:
- Carefully read the auction description to make sure you know what you're bidding on, and pay special attention to the seller's return policy and their shipping and handling charges.
- Research the item's value and look at "completed listings" to see what a similar item has sold for.
- Always check the seller's feedback, ratings and comments. You want to know the seller's reputation through what other buyers say. If there's too much negative feedback, don't bid on their items.
- Beware of counterfeit goods. For example, authentic designer purses never have tissue paper on the handles. Also, be wary if the accompanying picture is a "stock photo" not taken by the seller. This could mean they don't really have the product. Don't let your lust for luxe make a fool out of you!
- Find novice sellers who might be inexperienced and willing to sell at lower prices. (They will have a low number next to their eBay ID.)
- Look for misspelled keywords in the item description. For example, if "diamond" is spelled "dimond," you probably won't be competing with a lot of other fashion freaks.
- Try to bid in the last few minutes of an auction, so you can score those Louboutins that will make all your frenemies jealous.
- If you have any questions, just email the seller. Don't worry about intimidating them with your ferocious fashion superiority. You're the buyer, crack that whip!
Good luck -- with these fierce tips, you'll surely be Vuitton victorious!
