Does McCain's Pick Help His Chances?
John McCain has picked Sarah Palin to be his veep -- in a move that makes the 2008 election even more historic.

If you weren't a McCain supporter before -- are you now?

Most parents try to instill values onto their children - and many teens STILL get pregnant. I hope you or someone in your family doesn’t suffer the same fate,or make any judgement errors, lest you cross them out of your lives FOREVER!This is a real issue, and she’s dealing w/ it the best she can, cause that’s what we do. So I guess bill clinton must’ve REALLY infuriated you, huh?
Convenient timing with Gustav to detour… release the news that Palin’s daughter at 17 is pregnant. It looks as though Palin has more in common with the Spears family. Wow. I know it happens, but when you talk about all the values, being in touch, all this hoo-haw… it does not sit well. Disappointing. She is not at all what she seemed. Keep an eye on your family first above all. To busy trying to get your brother inlaw fired. What else will we find out?
Is it possible for McCain to change his mind on the VP??? Not that I care if he does…wasn’t voting for him anyway. But I was just wondering with all the bad press coming out now with Palin (her unwed daughter being pregnant, etc) will he or even can he change his mind. I wonder if he knew about the pregnancy?
Paulin’s daughter, whom is 17 years old is 5 months preggers! Humm. What does that say for her as a parent? Not watching out for her own?
As for McCain… bottom line is he votes 90% of the time with BUSH!!! We can not afford another 4 years.
Everybody says She has “NO EXPERIENCE”
well let’s see atleast she has been a Govenor. Unlike Obama that was just elected into senate in 2004. Definitely not somebody I want running our country
I think we’d just better agree to disagree. We seem to have different information ‘sources’,different reactions to them and different conclusions drawn therein. I guess that’s what makes for an interesting process. What I know about the other candidates frightens me; I’m even more worried about that which I don’t know and might possibly find out after it’s too late.Sometimes, the devil you know, is better than the devil you don’t know. Trying not to mistake confidence w/ ability, or arrogance w/ confidence, is always a good rule of thumb, btw.
Joia, I am not only concerned that Paulin is against Global Warming, but Paulin is a under legislative investigation of her July 11th firing, of the State Public Saftey Commissioner, Walt Moregan. He has asserted that he received pressure from Paulin, and her administration to fire a state trooper that was involved in a contentous divorce with Paulin’s sister.
As for MC just because he is 72 does mean he is wise. Wisdom comes from many other places then just age. The fact that someone is (seasoned) older does not = wisdom. I respect him for his age but, I do not see this move he has made as wise at all. There were much better choices for him to have made. Yes I agree MC has been through some tragedy. MC seems so unsure of himself. If someone were to step into my office for an interview for a job, and they seemed unconfident, then naturally I would have second thoughts about this canidate. Paulins actions in orchestrating the firing of her soon to be brother inlaw, shows she will be emotional in some important decision’s, and it shows she will use her power to do something unsavory to get what she wants. Not all women can keep there emotions in check.
I’m sure she, as well as all involved, will do their part (as WE should)in this and the MANY other pressing issues. The era of choosing based on ONE cause is long gone. Just because a candidate promises the world, as history has shown , does not mean they’ll deliver. I’d rather someone be honest from the get-go. As for Sen. McCain, yes, he’s got some age, but with age does come wisdom and experience.( We have the reverse w/ obama/biden - so?) Being young does NOT necessarily guarantee knowledge, skills,or the resolve necessary to deal w/ the way the world is right now. His physical stance may be ‘unappealing’ to some, but he has gone through some physical trauma, and maybe he’s not a comfortable orator as of yet - that’s unimportant in the real world. He’s not a ‘celeb’, nor should he try to engage in those sort of ‘camera-ready, self-centered, ‘look at me’ mannerisms. It’s not a variety show, like the DNC tried to be. As for the homes he has or doesn’t have, this is the most desperate of the straw-grasping (not from you, from the media) So what? They can’t think anything more substantial than that? His wife is extremely wealthy, and probably buys and sells real estate like we buy clothing. I’m sure she doesn’t have to alert him as to her every purchase, especially now, w/ the important task ahead. C’mon!
Joia sweetie, listen… Should she not believe in global warming, that means she most likly will not help the cause. There happens to be scientific proof it exists. As for Mr? I highly respect McCain, I think he is to old to be our president however. He is not confident, as it appears the way he stands, so uptight and uncomfortable. To be in a relaxed stance would be more appealing, as it shows that he is firm, and confident in his decison’s. He does not know how many homes he owns? Shows he is out of touch in his own life. You seem as though you have some inteligence? Again he is a great man, whom has done many great things, but he is a gambling man, you hear even from those closest to him, but he should not gamble with the country he claims to love.
NC ONE: Many people don’t buy the global warming threat - that’s their opinion. If Palin doen’t ‘believe’ in it, and it does exist, does her NOT believing change it?? Can it stop YOU from doing all YOU can to slow it down?
Don’t forget to become GOVERNOR, too, before you send in that resume. And by the way, moose is to Alaska as lobster is to Maine, as corn is to Kansas,as grits are to Mississippi, as fast food is to those who care not what goes into their bodies. PS: 1. Just because someone is 72, doesn’t mean they’re senile, and, 2. Let’s see what being in a POW camp for 5 yrs. does for your stance.
Sarah Palin does not believe in global warming I was just reading up on her beliefs. That is a huge concern for our future and current circumstance. I am sure this wonderful mom of 5 is great in Alaska, but lets be real… that is a hole different kind of world. She is very likly to become President at McCain being 72 and a bit senile. Looking at his stance when he is on stage, he seems a bit nervous too. Mr. McCain you have gambled the most important game of your life, and we all will be in a world of trouble with your pic. Again I am sure she is a fine women, but VP material? I think not. On the good side… at least I know that if I am on the city council, bake cookies, learn to shoot moose and make moose stew, join the PTA, play some ball here and there, well I will send my resume too!!! Maybe we soccer moms can rule the world too someday? : )
That’s a really good point, Bob. She knows where there can and cannot be drilling, and would certainly not want to risk her home state or her reputation by making an arbitrary decision. The people who actually live in, and work on that land are the ones who’ll give an honest appraisal, not any of these special interest groups, who’ve probably never even been NEAR Alaska. Plus, living that kind of somewhat frontier-type life, she’s far-removed from the b.s., and probably a lot tougher than some of the men around DC. It WAS a gutsy move, not a ploy, not a desperate chess move, not a trick of any kind (although the sore losers would have you think otherwise). Neither McCain nor Palin seem like they even care to work that way. Hopefully, the voters will match that courage and make an informed decision, based NOT on man, woman, bi-racial, caucasian, chronological age, or popularity w/ celebs (God forbid), but on a true desire to keep us safe and viable. We’ll see.
Mrs. Paulin I believe is going to surprise a lot of people, I think she has to be on top of her game to get over establishment in a ” GOOD OLD BOYS”
club. Remember she comes from a state with a large amount of oil in a economy that is realling from high oil prices. Her husband works for oil not as a cushy exec, but on the front lines. She knows exactly what is going on. Biden may be a long established senator but, I bet that when it comes down to the real blood and guts of this election, the vice presidential debates will tell the story. I bet this lady can hold her own, it all depends on what questions are asked.. I am independent and have not decided who I will vote for but, I think it was a gutsy pick.
Do some REAL homework. Apply the same scrutiny to b.o., as you would John McCain. Heed the sage advice of ‘History Professor’ in his post of Aug. 29. This is in no way the first scary information to be found on b.o.; his philosophies do not jibe w/ the philosophies of the country he wants to lead. He carries too much disdain,(like other parts of the world), for the very place he calls home.If you can still vote for b.o. with a clear conscience, go right ahead. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
You know, there are many more important things right now to consider in this country - not just the pro-choice platform. I am positively pro-choice, and I’ve voted for many of those who are not. All that means is that THEY do not support it - so what? They’re allowed to have their own opinion about such a personal thing. Just because a politician is pro-life, does not necessarily mean that the Roe v Wade decision can ever be turned around; pro-life is THEIR choice. Their belief. Their values. (For my part, I’m just more careful, since the responsibilty to have or not have a baby mostly lies w/ me). Look at the big picture, and stop trying to grasp at straws w/ this woman. If I read one more idiotic negatively put comment about the fact that Mrs. Palin eats moose stew, or snow-mobiles,I’ll scream! Liberals are so Vive la difference!, until the difference is apparent in someone they don’t like - typical two-faced, sour grape phoniness. Desperate much???
First of all Obama isn’t an african american as hes only part black & hes really called a half breed. Secondly he has NO experience in anything & he keeps saying different things about nothing. Third Martin Luther King didn’t do a thing either but say I have a dream & nothing more.
First of all, I am a registered Republican and I am voting for Obama! The last 8 years are proof that the present leadership in this country has failed miserably. I wish people would wake up and understand this starts in the local arena, congress and the senate …not just the presidency.Stop voting the same non performers in year after year. If these “politicians” performed like this in the private sector they’d be fired! I’m an Obama supporter and think McCain is desperate and so picked a female running mate. Only makes me more confident in my choice!
First of all I LOST all respect for McCain. I think this is just a political STUNT to get move WOMEN to vote for him. Does he think we are stupid? I don’t plan on voting for him after this. WHO is she? Seriously, we would be in DEEP crap if McCain died and she was left in charge (No experience). I’m all for a Female President or VP but not this way. I think the American Public needs to stop falling for stupid political stunts like this one. I’m ALL for change! BUT not this kind of change; a soccer mom; a former Beauty Queen runner-up; Give me A BREAK. I’m sure their are plenty of other Republicans Female Candiates that McCain could have choosen from. Whatever happens I hope everyone VOTES for the BETTER man; Change can only happen IF we the American VOTERS make it Happen! GO VOTE! Peace out! (D)
I am a Bill Clinton fan!!! I agree this is an issue that a lot of families face, but you are HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD WHEN YOU ARE IN PUBLIC OFFICE. I understand her position, as I am a young mother too, Jamie Lynn Spears, and now the VP daughter, we need a better role model as young women. You are the kind of Dad it sounds like that would let your kid run wild… that is why this does not concern you?
