George Clooney won an Oscar for his politically-charged role in "Syriana" -- now the Hollywood power player has shelled out big bucks to bring another real-life political drama to the silver screen.

According to the NY Post, Clooney and his production company, Smoke House, have nabbed the rights to "The Challenge" -- a book about Osama bin Ladin's driver, Salim Hamdan.

Hamdan is in solitary confinement while he awaits trial at Guantanamo Bay. He is the first person since WWII to face trial in the US after being charged with war crimes.
