Celebrities Pay Respects to Bernie Mac

Friends and colleagues have gathered together in Chicago today to pay their respects to Bernie Mac, who died August 9 of complications due to pneumonia.

AP reports that actor Samuel L. Jackson is among the group who will speak at Mac's memorial service at the House of Hope Church on the south side of the Windy City. Bernie's fellow comedians -- and co-stars from "The Original Kings of Comedy" -- Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer are also said to be sharing words at the funeral.

Mac was 50 when he died. He is survived by his wife Rhonda and daughter Je'Niece.

I just could not believe when I saw it on Larry King Live that he was gone. I thought he was very funny. Only watched a couple of his shows and thought they were funny.

But as they say, he is in a better place now, entertaining the people up stairs.

Our prayer is that God will bring peace to Mr. Mac’s family during their moment of despair. Though missed, Bernie Mac will continue to inspire many. We miss him dearly and are saddened that we never took advantage of the opportunity to see him perform live. Despite that, his comedy and funfilled character will live on.

My children loved his T.V. show, my dad and I are such great fans of his comic routines, movies, and shows. It breaks my heart that you are gone too soon. You left us with us all void but we will filled it with the work you have done. You will be deeply missed but not forgotten.

My family and I both want to send our condolences, prayers, and love to Bernie Mac’s family and friends. I am just an fan, but to know that someone so talented, so funny, and to be so young still is now gone on, it breaks my heart. His jokes, stand up routines, movies, shows will live on in our memories. My children love his last T.v show but we take the best from this time. Mr. Bernie Mac you will be missed but not be forgotten!
