'Damages' Makes Emmy History

0717close.jpg

"Mad Men" and "Damages" made Emmy history as the first basic cable shows with Best Series nods, while TV faves "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" were nearly shut out!

The clear winner -- HBO's historical drama "John Adams," had a whopping 23 nods -- including one for actor Paul Giamatti.

Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth announced Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey's comedy gem "30 Rock" came in second with 17 nominations, with Alec and Tina both scoring acting nods.

Joining Alec in the comedy categories are Steve Carell, Lee Pace, Tony Shaloub and Charlie Sheen. The comedy gals include Christina Applegate, America Ferrera, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Mary-Louise Parker.

"I am flattered and honored to be nominated," Charlie told "Extra." "Ugly Betty" beauty America Ferrera was just as excited, telling us, "I was in my apartment on the couch watching the announcements. It's amazing... it's the extra cherry on top!"

Fan favorites "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" didn't fare well -- the shows were short on nominations, with the only major nods going to Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson.

Jericho deserves the nomination for outstanding visual effects. Season 2 was full of these amazing effects. But, what about the phenomenal acting and writing on this show, too. Brad Beyer’s goodbye scene left me speechless and sobbing. And Skeet Ulrich’s torture sequence was amazing. They both gave their all in these scenes and definitely deserve recognition. Jericho has proven itself in the hearts of it’s fans over and over again. There has never been a show quite like this, nor will there ever be again. Jericho is in a class of it’s own.

First I would like to say Thanks to the Emmy’s for Jericho’s nomination in Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series. But in the same breath I say
Shame, Shame, Shame on the Emmy’s for not giving credit where credit is due. The show Jericho should have been nominated for many, many more categories. Not to mention the actors themselves. They all put their heart and soul into the character they were portraying. Brad Beyer’s (Stanley) scene where he has to say his final goodbyes to his sister Bonnie (played by Shoshannah Stern)after she was murdered, made you feel like your heart was being cut out right along with Stanley’s heart. Yes, the Emmy’s has really missed the boat on this.

Kudos to the Emmys for nominating “Jericho” in outstanding visual effects. However, how could Emmy voters dismiss Brad Beyer’s brilliant supporting performance as Stanley Richmond? As he signed his goodbye to murdered kid sister Bonnie, Brad brought viewers to tears with barely a whisper. We felt the pain in his eyes, and cried right along with him.

I’m glad that “John Adams” stands a good chance of a sweep in so many categories. But I would have loved to have seen both Jeremy Northam and Natalie Dormer receive nominations for their roles as Thomas More and Anne Boleyn in “The Tudors”. I appreciate the clannishness that results in the Academy’s wanting to honor actors of their own nationailty, but it’s a pity that they missed a major opportunity to honor two fine actors. With the recent passing of two of More’s notable portrayers, Paul Scofield and Charlton Heston, Northam really had some big shoes to fill in that part.Hopefully BAFTAs, Golden Globes, SAG and The People’s Choice Awards will be more generous.

I am really surprised to see that 24 and Kiefer Sutherland aren’t on the list as well as Chris Maloni for L&O:SVU, as well as the show it’s self..what is it with EMMY the last couple of years..looks like I’m gonna have to rent a cpl of movies that night..cuz watching for 2 catergories isn’t worth it anymore :(

I think the Emmy’s made a big mistake not nominating the Lifetime series Army Wives. I feel this show is one of the best and deserves to be recognized.

What about Jericho? Jericho is hands down the best show on tv in years. This was the Emmy’s chance to show the world that they don’t bow down to corporate tv and are capable of recognizing brilliance no matter the network or status of the show. It didn’t get any better than Skeet Ulrich’s character being tortured or Lennie James’ character becoming enraged when almost captured by the bad guys. And what about Emmy nods for the writers of Jericho? Or special effects— the first plane dog fight in tv history was on the final show of season 2 AND a massive explosion that has to be one of the largest if not the largest in tv history on the first show of season 2.

Shame on you Emmy nominators for not recognizing Jericho’s brilliance!! Don’t worry, 9 million Jericho fans do and will likely boycott your awards ceremony when it airs. Maybe its time to re-evaluate your nomination processes.

I’m looking forward in watching the emmy awards on Sept. 21st. It would be a lot exiting if I can down there on the red carpet talking with the stars.

I’m just a bit curious. The Magazine HOLLYWOOD GOSSIP reported her profiles were found on the famous 30+ 40+ rich men seeking affairs site *** [ JSeniorMatch. c om ] *** last week and he was seeking her mature baby there now!
