Tim Russert Dies at 58

"Meet the Press" host Tim Russert has died of a heart attack, reports The New York Times. The NBC Washington bureau chief was recording voiceovers for Sunday's show when he collapsed, said MSNBC. Russert had just returned from a vacation in Italy to celebrate his son's college graduation. Reports say that he died at Sibley Hospital after being stricken at the studio.

Tom Brokaw, former anchor of "NBC Nightly News" announced Russert's death, saying, "He was one of the premier political journalists and analysts of his time. This news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice."

The Emmy award winner was head of Washington operations at MSNBC, and a vice president of NBC News. He was also named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world. Russert is survived by his wife, journalist Maureen Orth, his son Luke, and his father, "Big Russ," about whom he wrote the bestseller, "Big Russ and Me."

Personally I’m sorry that I never heard of him; being a night person I miss a lot on TV. I heard about him on Extra so with that; my heart a prayers go out to his family and so sorry for your loss. Life without him will be hard; at least you know that he his with out beloved savior looking down and watching over you. He is not that much older than me; in fact he is the same age as my oldest brother. We have heart problems in our family not to mention diabetis as well. My mother passed away with her heart, not to mention a few other relatives in the past. The world will not be the same without him here and his hard work that he accomplished. ((((((Tim Russert’s family)))))) God Bless and one day you will see him again; with no problems!!

I was so saddened to hear of him passing and my prayers are with his family & friends. I am not much into politics as a normal part of my life but he was so good to watch that he made you interested. I learned a lot from watching him and wish that more people emulated his honest approach to life. At least he got to enjoy his last days with his family and passed doing something he truly loved. We need more men like him to be sure-such a great loss for all….

my heart aches for his wonderful wife
and son and his dad. I cannot imagine the pain they are going thru. He was respected by so many in his field and that speaks volumes. He held politician’s feet to the fire-respectfully,nicely but no doubt-he was a strong interviewer. Here is a man our youngsters can look up to and say-I want to be like him! I saw his son on the Today show today and he is such a wonderful young man. May he follow in his dad’s footsteps in all aspects and be as good in his life as his dad was in his. Godspeed Tim Russert!

I was shocked! What a Gentleman and a very intelligent male. I was not into News and Politics but I totally enjoyed Tim everytime I saw him involved in something, especially at election time. He certainly gave it to you as it was and no beating around the bush. I so admired him for that. You will be missed My Friend and the News Media has lost “One Hell of a Man” Good bye My Friend. We will meet again in a higher place. Sleep well!

I’m starting to believe this Friday the 13th curse after what happened with Tim Russert dying and other things that occurred on a personal level on 6/13/08 that were bizarre to say the least. Legendary sportscaster Charlie Jones also passed away to add to the bizarre and tragic events of the day. There may very well be some validity to triscadecophobia. It’s scary. Always be extra careful on Friday the 13th because I think it’s a day with no safety net. I don’t believe in the supernatural, but this Friday the 13th really made me wonder. Happenstance can seem like a predestined curse and randomness is brutally cut and dry, so when a lot of bad things happen on Friday the 13th, chances are it’s just a strange coincidence. But I won’t completely write off the possibility of evil forces at work.

I am devastated. After all the years I watched him on Meet The Press I feel as though I knew him and he was a friend. I get teary eyed evertime I hear his name mentioned or read about him today. Even Tom Brokow weaped when talking about his friend. I really didn’t know him but I feel I did and I join Tom with the tears of a great loss.

Reguardless of his own personal political leanings, (which sometimes showed through), he was the best at what he did! I along with many others will miss him on Meet the Press and in the upcoming political election.

Tim Russert made politics bearable for everyone, with his fair, unbiased manner. He was the salt of the earth, always brilliant, and always compassionate. Tim is leaving a void in the world.

Sad day for those of us who are political junkies. Russert was a great interviewer and and honest person. Just ask Scooter Libby.

He was the one journalist who predicted that the fight between Bush and Gore would all come down to Florida. He was right — and we all know how that turned out.

A superb political analyst, and well loved.

So so sad. He was a great journalist and was one of the most unbiased if not the most unbiased journalist within the political world. He will be incredibly missed.
