O'Neal Grateful for Arrest

0603tatum.jpg

Just two hours after being released from jail, actress Tatum O'Neal expressed relief over her arrest for buying crack and cocaine -- which reportedly stopped the rehabbed star from using the drugs she bought, reports the NY Post.

Initially, O'Neal blamed her late night purchase on research for an upcoming role, but now the 44-year-old actress admits to going through a rough patch. "It was a shock to me and a huge wakeup call," says O'Neal, "I'm eternally grateful... that I didn't get to do what my disease was telling me to do."

O'Neal, who claims she's not fallen off the wagon, says, "I'm still sober. Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the cops came and saved me!"

Tatum will appear in "Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal," debuting on Lifetime August 2.

I heard the story about Tatum and am sorry to hear about the loss of her dog. My dog had cancer and I had to put her down last summer. It is just such a difficult loss, they are part of your family and they are bundles of unconditional love. I hated seeing that Danny Bonaduce was on I think the Today Show this morning putting her down. Anyone who’s loved a pet knows it is a difficult loss. We also never know what someone else is going through so we should not try to judge. I know the loss of my dog was the last of many losses and overwhelmed me. I can understand wanting to turn to something that has brought comfort in the past. I hope she has lots of love and support and get through this difficult time.

Other outlets are reporting that the death of Tatum’s pet led to this almost relapse. I had to have my beloved dog euthanized last August and I’m still dealing with sadness every day. It is a real shock to the system. Good luck Tatum and thoughts and prayers.
