Beatty: 'I Love Paul'

0613newman.jpg

Unconfirmed reports continue to circulate that actor Paul Newman is suffering from lung cancer -- and now Hollywood is responding to the news. "Extra" hit the red carpet at the AFI Life Achievement Award for Warren Beatty, where A-listers opened up about their colleague.

"I love Paul and I just cross my fingers that he can deal with this," said Beatty. "There are great new medical developments that are coming up all the time. So we'll hold our breath."

Also in attendance was actress Jane Fonda -- who revealed that she's wanted to contact the "Butch Cassidy" actor since the cancer rumors began. "He's been a friend of mine almost as long as Warren -- very sad to hear that," said Fonda, "In fact, I've started a letter to him."

Newman's reps have kept mum on reports of the actor's health, issuing only the cryptic statement, "He's doing nicely."

Send your well wishes to Paul by leaving a comment below.

Mr. Newman: I too will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I love you and your wifes work over the years. I also have followed your careers and as far as I am concern; everything you both do; you turn to gold. I ahve several of your movies both on VHS and DVD’s. I am sure if my Mother was alive she too would have commended you in everything you do. My hubby is a race car fan; not to sure if he has watched you race; but I can guess that he has. God bless you both and I agree with everyone here who has left a comment. May you live longer my friend and continue your work if you so choose.

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward are in a league of their own and Brad and Angelina can’t touch it. Their integrity has been beyond compare especially to the likes of Brangelina!!

As I have fought lung cancer for almost 3 years, I sympathize with Paul Newman and his family. I would really appreciate it if he and his family would come forth to bring awareness to the press and government
about how neglected and stigmatized lung cancer has been. However, I understand how important privacy must be to Mr. Newman at this time.

Paul Newman and his family have long been a great activitists for health and charity - I hope they will eventually take a stand to help in our effort to bring sympathy and support to those contract this disease. It doesn’t matter if someone smoked, or for how long - lung cancer deserves better survival.

Mr. Newman, I have loved you & your work for years, and you have been one of my favorite actors along w/Robert Redford. I still remember watching the two of you so fondly in “Butch Cassidy …” as well as in “The Sting.” You worked so well together, and it was evident that you had a mutual respect as well as a friendly affection for each other. I also have admired your wife over the years. I still remember seeing you w/your wife on the “Person To Person” TV show back in the 50s when I was just a kid, and my being so impressed with both of you looking so glamorous & professional. I also have very much admired your philanthropy w/your “Newman’s Own” products as well as w/your & your wives’ contribution to the environment. You will be in my prayers - I wish you nothing but the best! You are a true humanitarian & professional!
