Beatty: 'I Love Paul'

0613newman.jpg

Unconfirmed reports continue to circulate that actor Paul Newman is suffering from lung cancer -- and now Hollywood is responding to the news. "Extra" hit the red carpet at the AFI Life Achievement Award for Warren Beatty, where A-listers opened up about their colleague.

"I love Paul and I just cross my fingers that he can deal with this," said Beatty. "There are great new medical developments that are coming up all the time. So we'll hold our breath."

Also in attendance was actress Jane Fonda -- who revealed that she's wanted to contact the "Butch Cassidy" actor since the cancer rumors began. "He's been a friend of mine almost as long as Warren -- very sad to hear that," said Fonda, "In fact, I've started a letter to him."

Newman's reps have kept mum on reports of the actor's health, issuing only the cryptic statement, "He's doing nicely."

Send your well wishes to Paul by leaving a comment below.

If the writings about Paul Newman are true, I pray for him and his family. What a wonderful man. His and Joann’s Charity is such that it can’t be compared to anything else. The unselflessness of the 2 of them is to be learned from. You have a lot of people who love you Mr. Newman, and we are out here pulling for you, and praying for your family….

I offer my prayers to Mr.Newman and his wife. I lost my mother last year to lung cancer. Hers was irreversable because of neglect by doctors she trusted. I know Mr.Newman is in better hands. Mr.Newman and Ms.Wooward are truly wonderful people and no one can ever replace either of them.(It is an insult to compare Jolie and Pitt to them) My mother as well as the rest of my family loved their movies. I pray he gets better and lives many more years. May god bless both of you and keep you safe.

Only best wishes to Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. You two are the definition of class act! Thank you for your generosity to the many humanitarian causes you have supported giving hope and help to countless people. “Long Hot Summer” is my favorite Newman/Woodward collaboration, and “The Sting” will always be my favorite Newman work. I saw you once at a car race but couldn’t bring myself to go up to you—you looked so intense! My prayers are with you and your family. Thanks for the years of joy!

My heart and prayers go out to Paul Newman and his wife and family. My hope is that he is really doing nicely and that he is not as ill as people think. I have always loved and admired Paul and his many movie roles. He is the consumate actor and family man! I would have loved to have had a husband as beautiful as he is. My favorite movie is his performance with Elizabeth Taylor in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”. He was so sexy and so passionate! I love him and always will.

I recently turned 63 and Paul Newman in my mind you are one of the bigest stars in your field. We have lost so many of the greatest during the past few years, and I hope we don’t lose you. I saw you on some TV show not long ago where you said that one of the things you would like to do is make another movie with Robert Redford. I really hope that wish comes to fruition; we would all like that to happen. God bless you. Thank you for all the joy you have given us over the years. You will be in my prayers as will Joanne.

my heart n prayers go out to paul newman. my parents always loved him n my brother n i watched alot of his movies and always loved him. i guess im most proud of my brother being a part of his ashford camp. he was one of the crew(from southington firewood co.) who cleared the lot and made the front page news which he felt was something special because he never had his own kids(died from an accident at an early age)but absolutly loved kids and was proud of being a part of that camp. after his accident, my mother always made donations every year to his camp in memory of Kevin Brousseau. my family always loved Paul Newman and wishes him all the best!

How dare Extra compare the lives of paul newman and his wife to angelina jolie!! Mr newman and his wife had an true marriage of many years. jolie and brad pitt are neither married , having children and if i remember correctly had an affair while still married. i am SOOOOO tired on hearing about how wonderful they are (pitt/jolie). i can only hope for paul newman much healthiness in his trying times ahead.

When your story about Paul Newman and his woderful wife Joanne Woodward compared them to Jolie and Pitt, I realized that whoever writes or produces your segments does not have a clue. How anyone could compare Jolie to Woodward is ludicrous. I don’t recall Woodward stealing a husband, Jolie helped push Aniston out the door, just as she did with Billy Bob Thornton and Laura Dern. Newman and Woodward are a class act and no one can compare. Please leave them alone to deal with whatever it is they are going through privately. Mr. Newman deserves that respect.
