'American Idol' Redo?
Paula Abdul proved she's still got the golden touch by releasing her own hit single this year. Now she's telling "Extra" how she'd like to change the look of "American Idol."

I’m with Paula; it ain’t broke, so it shouldn’t be fixed. Season 7 was exceptional (and you couldn’t ask for a better ending than the Battle of the Davids and Cook’s unexpected win), and the producers need to ignore the dip in ratings and keep doing what they’re doing, because it’s working. Ratings are just numbers; the quality of the show last season was superior all the way around. They are also making a big mistake in cutting back the results shows to half an hour. There will not be time for much at all (they expanded these shows to an hour in Season 6 after the last half hour show was so rushed, Ryan barely had time to give the results). Worst of all, a big casualty of this change will be the wonderful Idol Live call-in segment. This not only gave viewers a chance to interact with their favorite contestants and judges, it also made for some incredible moments, like Simon getting a surprise call from his childhood sweetheart. A lot of the best Simon moments last season happened on results shows (including the famous Fantasia Face); if these shows are cut back, there won’t be time for these moments to happen anymore. On most half hour results shows in the past, the judges didn’t even get to speak at all.
