David Sings Dad's Praises

David Archuleta's father Jeff has been barred from backstage at "American Idol" -- and now the 17-year-old "Idol" hopeful is standing up for his father!

"I've heard some weird things that people have been saying, and it's kind of a bummer," David told the new issue of TV Guide, reports Us Weekly. "I think I, of all people, would know what's going on, and he's been great."

It began circulating that the older Archuleta was an overbearing stage father, after reports surfaced of Jeff withholding water from David during recording sessions -- a report that David insists, "is kind of stupid."

"I'm 17!" young Archuleta exclaimed, "I think I'd be able to stand up for myself if he were to take my water away."

David continues the fight for the "Idol" crown this week, as he battles against the other two contestants left standing -- Syesha Mercado and David Cook.

Way to go David for sticking up for your family. I also grew up in a conservative
christian family (which is what they imply about David) and there is nothing wrong
with a dad being protective and what hollywood might view as “overbearing” He
always tried to do what he thought was best. Now
that I’m a mom I can see that. He’s his DAD, and I’m so
impressed that David obviously respects him and stuck up for him.

I love this kid - he’s really got talent to spare. What goes on in his family is certainly his own biz. But, he looks so frightened all the time, and that’s just what he’d say to defend someone he was afraid of - OR in defense of. Hopefully, it’s the latter!

It’s really good that David Archuleta speak out in defense of his Dad. ALL I CAN SAY: LEAVE THEM ALONE. YOU DON’T KNOW THE FAMILY DYNAMIC SO BUTT OUT. I THINK DAVID ARCHULETA IS POPULARITY IS GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER THAT IS WHY THE MEDIA IS CRAVING FOR MORE JUICY STUFF OF HIM.
