Archuleta 'Knocks Out' Cook

The battle of the Davids produced a clear winner for the "Idol" judges -- and unfortunately for rock crooner Cook, baby-faced Archuleta outsang him in a focused and commanding shot at the AI title.

The evening consisted of three rounds of songs chosen by the producers, judges and singers themselves -- and Simon declared Archuleta the winner of all three. The final round had Archuleta and Cook singing songs of their own choosing; Archuleta chose his well-tested version of John Lennon's "Imagine," while Cook opted for a somber version of Collective Soul's "The World I Know."

Cook's song choice drew criticism from the notoriously harsh Simon, who suggested it was the wrong song for this point in the competition -- but Mr. Mean had heaps of praise for young Archuleta, saying, "You came out here tonight to win, and what we have witnessed is a knockout." Judge Randy Jackson agreed, saying to Archie, "You are so good tonight -- you are exactly what this show is about."

The judges all but crowned Archuleta -- but will viewers agree? Find out tonight on the final results show tonight on FOX!

I don’t want to take a page from Cooks’ fans book and bash him the way they do David A. I find that petty and it does not make him look good.
However, David Archuleta is a rare talent, a very very unique pure voice, which with guidance can really be amazing.
I really think David Archuleta is extremely talented, a natural, and deserves to win as he embodies the spirit of the show.

Archie needs to be on the Disney Channel. Cook will sell more records. He overall is a better musician. He doesn’t need daddy to suggest lyrical changes to melt the heart of teenage girls.

Archuleta is special. We’ve heard so many David Cooks. Archuleta’s voice is different and let’s get real; he’s the best singer—period.

Archuletta sounds exactly the same in every song. He only can sing ballads and his cd album would be boring. Regardless who wins Cook will have a longer career than archuletta.

I think they are both very talented. But I like to think of who’s concert I would go too & it’s not Archuleta. He is quite boring to me. Cook has an air of star quality & excitement. I totally disagreed with the Judges last night.

Archie was awesome, but so was Cook, and I feel that he’s more original and adventurous. Cook’s third round song was something he never sang before, which I think should automatically give that round to him. He was so right when he told Simon that you don’t progress by singing something you’ve already sang. He also broke major ground by choosing an uptempo first single. Maybe it’s time to break at least for now from the soaring “this is my moment” ballads. Cook’s song was catchy, fun, and different for a finale song.

I loved the boxing theme, with the two Davids coming out in robes and boxing gloves, and the fact that they each got to choose their first single from the songwriting contest finalists instead of having America vote, which is way too cheesy for a song that will launch a career.

And may I say that I LOVE Simon in that suit with the open shirt and lots of exposed chest hair!!!!
