Trainer Killed by Bear

0423bear.jpg

Vicious, unpredictable, deadly -- even trained wild animals can kill in an instant, and that's exactly what happened yesterday when 39-year-old animal trainer Stephan Miller was attacked by Rocky, a trained grizzly bear. The bear bit him on the neck, inflicting a fatal injury. It was the same 800-pound grizzly that Will Ferrell went toe-to-toe with in his basketball comedy, "Semi-Pro."

Earlier this year, training center owner Randy Miller, the victim's cousin, told the San Bernardino Sun that the 5-year-old bear, was "the best working bear in the business."

"Extra" goes inside the Predators in Action training center where Stephan Miller lost his life, for a chilling interview with Randy on the dangers of working with wild animals.

I totally agree with LavenderLace.
I’m truely saddened that a human life was lost, however I will be equally sad if this bear is put down over it.It is and will always be a wild animal no matter how much human contact/interaction he has.The bear should be placed at an animal sanctuary where it can live its life in the open outdoors yet be protected.

What caused the bear to “attack” its trainer and kill him? I’ll tell you what… predator instinct! For God’s sake, these animals (lions and tigers and bears AND elephants) are not puppy dogs! They’re still wild no matter how much human contact they’ve had. Perhaps the bear was only trying to play with the trainer as it would play with another bear… who knows? I’m sorry that someone’s dead, I truly am… it’s horrible… but people have to realize that these types of animals ARE NOT HOUSEBROKEN and should not be treated as if they are… forced to do tricks on command as if they were a miniature poodle… there’s a difference between domesticated animals and non-domesticated animals and it’s time people recognized that fact… as far as I’m concerned, the bear isn’t at fault… it did what bears do, for whatever reason they do it.
