Pregnant Man: 'It's My Right'

The world's first pregnant man is brushing off the controversy surrounding his shocking decision, insisting it's simply his right to have a child.

"I'm a person and I have the right to have my own biological child," Thomas Beatie told Oprah Winfrey yesterday in an episode to air on Thursday.

Beatie, 34, is a transgender man once known as Tracy Lagondino. He lived most of his young life as a woman, even competing in a Miss Hawaii Teen USA beauty pageant -- until deciding to undergo chest reconstruction surgery. He kept his female reproductive organs and is now legally male and married to his wife, Nancy. But when Nancy couldn't get pregnant, Thomas decided to conceive. "If Nancy could get pregnant, I wouldn't be doing this," he tells People magazine.

To begin their headline-making journey, Thomas stopped taking hormone injections and got pregnant using an anonymous sperm donor. Their baby girl -- already a kicker, according to Thomas -- is due in July. "We're just a husband and wife who are having a baby," Nancy told People.

The only down side? "Unfortunately, there's no such thing as 'manternity' clothes," Thomas quipped.

i think its so cool that you are pregnant and overcoming the unbelievable and its also amazing how you had the corouge to put yourself out their knowing that you would be judged and in good and bad ways!
