Extra, Thank you so much for posting this. So many people are talking about this performance without really knowing what they’re talking about. The difference in context is key and in the context of television rather than Broadway, David did indeed nail it.
I’ve just listened to the Studio Version which I got from ITunes, which is quite different from the performance version. I love both of them and am so proud of David. He got the chance to let his inner theatre nerd out and to show his admiration for Sir Andrew.
Yes, David Cook did do it beautifully. I am still trying to pick up my jaw off the floor. Simon preferred David to do a little rock edge but that would have touched a song that should never, ever be messed up. You don’t mess with Music of the Night. It’s iconic and David really did nail it and it is a very difficult song to sing that few people can carry off. this proves who is the most talented, well rounded with unbelievable range.
David Cook is a SUPERSTAR!!! He can sing anything put in front of him. At this point, there is not competition. If America has an ounce of taste, David Cook should win EASY!!!
