Paula's 'Idol' Confusion

abdul0430.jpg

It was a hectic night on "American Idol," with the final five each crooning two Neil Diamond songs. Instead of the usual format, in which the judges critique each hopeful after their performance, Randy, Paula and Simon were asked to take notes during performances and offer their opinions at the end of each round. The new format threw off Paula Abdul -- she critiqued both songs from Jason Castro -- even though he had only sung one!

"The second song, I felt like your usual charm wasn't -- it was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty," says Abdul, "the two songs made me feel like you're not fighting hard enough to get into the top four."

Randy Jackson cleared up the confusion by reminding Paula that Castro had only sung once. Even judge Simon Cowell, who had his usual harsh critiques for the aspiring Idols, admitted that the new format had also thrown him for a loop. "This was officially the strangest show we've ever done," Cowell said at the end of the show, "but I like that. It's kind of a bit chaotic tonight."

Does anyone beside me think that just maybe the “powers that be” decide who is going to win, and not our votes? We would never know the difference.

This isn’t the first time Paula’s tipped her hand early. If I remember correctly, last week she seemed to know ahead of time that Syesha was in the bottom two. It was the episode where Carly was eliminated: first Cook and Archie were called up and were told that they’re both safe. Then, Brooke and Syesha were called up. It could have been that both were safe, like how last night the first three called up were safe and it was down to the last two. Seacrest said that Brooke was safe but made no mention of Syesha. The way they like to fake people out he could have said that both of them were safe, but it seemed like Paula spilled the beans too early. Seacrest smoothed it over by going along with Paula’s comments and sending her to the bottom two stools, but it was pretty obvious that Paula jumped the gun.

I say, just enjoy the show! I’m 56 years old and this is my favorite time twice a week. The judges are awesome, and are here for us to enjoy. Those kids are fantastic, and truly sing their hearts out to us. And as for Paula, she’s a sweetheart. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to do what she does, and to get criticism like she does is so sad. You get out there in front of millions, and see what is is like! OMG!!!

I am here to apologize to ExtraTV Staff. They are right. After watching it again, it was Jason Castro. As for who is Jason Cook, I meant David Cook. Very sorry. So as you can see anybody, including me, made mistake. Basically leave Paula alone.

i think the show is rigged, paula saying what she did, as if she had heard both songs, and then brook crying before she was told she had to leave, its as if she already knew.and this show is a popularity contest now,not who has talent.

Confusion? The ExtraTV Staff should look in the mirror. They are the one who is wrong. According to them that Paula Abdul “critiqued both songs from Jason Castro” when in fact it’s Jason Cook.

I think she needs to wake up and stop drinking every night. DON’T GET ME WRONG I LIKE HER, BUT SHE NEEDS TO PAY MORE ATTENTION. I also wouldn’t doubt that it did get confusing. It was confusing for me why they judged like that after all these years. I did not like the way it was on Tuesday. Also I like BROOKE the BEST.

I don’t care about all the negative comments, Neil Diamond night was amazing!!! I had been wanting Idol to feature his music for as long as I’ve been watching the show. My favorite performance was Brooke singing “I Am…I Said” - it was just beautiful and I was tearing up!!! David Cook was as incredible with this theme as I expected, even though I was hoping he would sing two of Neil’s well-known songs like “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show”, “Holly Holy”, or “Cherry, Cherry”. Simon was deliciously sexy to boot in that low-cut shirt!!!! It was one of my favorite Idol shows ever!!! The change in judging procedure was different, but that was the only way each singer could get in two songs in one hour. And it didn’t rob the judges of any camera or mike time at all, so all was right with the world.
