Cynthia Nixon: A Survivor's Story

0415nixon.jpg

It's the intensely personal secret Cynthia Nixon kept hidden until now -- a 2006 phone call from her doctor that confirmed an eerie premonition that she would be diagnosed with the same disease her mother had beaten 30 years earlier. "I always sort of thought, I'm going to get breast cancer," said Nixon. Doctors told her, "It's very small and we're just going to get in there and take it right out," she added, "I felt scared."

On the eve of "Miranda's" much-anticipated big screen return, the "Sex and the City" star opened up to Cynthia McFadden on "Good Morning America" about her survival story.

As the new Ambassador for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, Nixon hopes many more women will hear her message. Cynthia cautioned, "The only thing to really be afraid of is if you don't get your mammograms because you don't want to know."

Is there any way to get her contact information? I am a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and was wondering if she would like to donate to our cause.

I’m glad to hear that Cynthia Nixon has recovered from her cancer battle. I also glad that she kept her cancer battle in private. We do not need to know everything about her.

I have followed Cynthias career and she is a phenominal woman. I am launching an extremely unique bra for breast augmentation and mastectomy patients(post-surgical) and will be donating 10% of the proceeds of EACH bra sold to BCRF. I would for her to be the spokesmodel for this amazing product, and help end Breast cancer one Bra at a time..

Kudos to Cynthia Nixon for sharing her story and becoming an ambassador for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

Based on her family history I am curious to know if Cynthia tested for a BRCA genetic mutation. There is a terrific organization called FORCE that supports women with a hereditary risk of breast & ovarian cancer. Check out facingourrisk.org for more info.

Best wishes to Cynthia for a long and healthy life!
