Castro a Bad 'Memory,' Brooke Forgets

idol0423.jpg

"Idol" time may be running out for dreadlocked Jason Castro, as he delivered a dreadful rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Memory" from "Cats" last night. But Brooke White's odd restart may be what's remembered at voting time.

Judges Randy and Simon were less than impressed by the crooner's attempt at Broadway -- which the singer delivered while seated on a stool. "Vocally for me, it was kind of a train wreck," said Randy, with Simon adding, "It felt to me, and I'm sure to you, like the longest two minutes of your life."

Aside from his vocal and range shortcomings, Castro seemed to pick a song that was out of his element. "I never thought I would see a man sing 'Memory' -- with dreadlocks," said Webber, "that was a bit of a joke."

Tune in to FOX tonight to see if voters agree with the judges -- and which hopeful will hit the road.

Jason Castro is absolutely wonderful!! I agree that his performance was not his best, but her performed well! (I did not know he was sick, although I thought that he did not look himself.) By far his first performance was better than anyones, not to mention Hallejuiah and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Jason is an awesome, awesome performer. Archuleta has no where the maturity that Jason has. I, too, do not understand why people do not realize the times he forgot his words. Jason has never done that. We are voting on their performance not their hair. If we were voting on hair, David Cook would get no votes. He can not even comb his hair before a performance.

I just checked out this artist named REAL at sankofarecords.com. It was the best musical experience I’ve had in a long time. He has such a powerful voice, filled with so much soul and I just love his rugged looks.

YOU NEED TO HAVE HIM ON YOUR SHOW, SO THE WORLD CAN BE BLESSED WITH HIS GREATEST.

SAFE…SAFE…SAFE….in TOP 4!!!! Extra, can the bashing stop now and more balanced, unbiased reporting occur? America loves this kid and would probably like to see more positive stories about him.

Why in the world can we remove this mentally of favoritism? I do agree with some of the comments; if he was sick and still performed infornt of millions; how would you call that? a real performer (that’s my opinion)

Please change ALW’s quote to his ACTUAL words. How embarrassing for what is even slightly considered a news source to report so inaccurately.
Thanks for also pointing that out, Foxy.

This is ridiculous. Why single Jason out? Archuleta botched his lyrics and Brooke almost had a nervous breakdown on live television. This wasn’t Jason’s best performance, but definitely not the worst.

I won’t be watching Extra again.

thanks for the press. keep putting Jason front page…it doesn’t phase me… a lot of people actually understood his performance and are not awayed by what randy and simon might say.

that performance was neither TERRIBLE or EXCELLENT therefore depending on what the judges said it could have gone either way. i guess we know who they want gone tonight

PERHAPS THE *REAL* STORY HERE IS HOW JASON WENT ON STAGE SICK LAST NIGHT AND STILL MANAGED TO PERFORM.
IF IT’S TRUE HE WAS GETTING IV’S BETWEEN SHOWS, I’D SAY THAT WAS A PRETTY REMARKABLE FEAT! MAYBE YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT THE FACTS BEFORE RUSHING TO JUDGEMENT OR AT LEAST TRY TO BE BALANCED IN YOUR STORYTELLING. IT’S CALLED *GOOD JOURNALISM*!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Jason Castro deserves great props and utter respect for going on stage in front of millions, sick as a dog and getting through it. What’s more, he apparently didn’t want to use being sick as a “crutch” so viewers weren’t told about it. He acted the ugly remarks with grace and dignity.
I do find it interesting that his performance is the only one your program is “singling out”. Another contestant forgot their lyrics and actually started over—something that has NEVER happened before on American Idol (or any live, professional performance I’ve ever seen for that matter!) and yet you choose to only critize a young man who went on stage extremely ill and had a hard time performing up to his full potential because of it. This show is so obviously *biased* against Jason (don’t think we missed you jumping on the whole “he doesn’t care if he goes home” bandwagon earlier this week!). I can tell you he has a HUGE fan base and we will be turning Extra OFF from now on!

Absolutely not! Jason was great last night. His performance was heartfelt and it was not his style to shout and belt out like the others did.

The judges especially Randy is the trainwreck!

First of all this quote that you made is wrong “that was a bit of a joke.” ALW said “that was a bit of a jolt for this brit”. If you are going to make someone look bad please at least get your ears checked first.

I thought Jason did great last night considering he is really sick and was taken to the hospital right after the show. Also, he is not the only one to get bad reviews from the judges, yet he’s the only one to get their performance bashed on your headlines. Really professional let me tell you.

Thanks for giving me another reason not to watch your show.

There are rumors that Jason was extremely SICK on Tuesday night!!!!! Supposedly he got sick over the weekend and had to be taken to the doctor/hospital and given antibiotics. Rumors have it being anything from a mild throat infection to pneumonia! One poster said he had to be given an IV backstage between the rehearsal show and the actual show Tuesday night (dehydration?). No mention of this on the show but someone said Ryan did say something about “hope you’re feeling better” in the rehearsal. Supposedly, Jason didnt want it mentioned because he didn’t want pity votes.
