Big Changes in Store for 'Idol'?

0428idol.jpg

Are the producers of "American Idol" considering an extreme makeover?

Yes. Reportedly worried about the ratings, "Idol producers are considering major changes, like playing the auditions as flashbacks.

Producers have also been taking audience surveys, asking if the judges banter too much and if fans want to see more or less of Ryan Seacrest.

"We've had a lot of pressure put on us by the media this year," says "Idol" Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe. "We're still number one, too. It starts to annoy you after awhile. Come at me and talk about ratings when we're not number one on the charts anymore."

American Idol needs to limit the number of times you can vote. The tweenboppers are taking over the show and voting for who they “THINK IS CUTE”, like David A. who sings through his nose. He will be the one that nobody remembers in 2 years.

As long-time fans of Idol our family has become increasingly dismayed at the obvious “casting” of each year’s contestants. It is so obvious that the producers set up a “cast” to either have a male or female win, if possible. We think you need someone else besides your three judges to pick the talent. They are always coming from a certain mindset since they are only looking for a “pop” singer and they can’t stand country or “Broadway.” I think the viewers are more broadbased in their tastes and they are looking more for talent and personality, regardless of the genre. It seems obvious that management considers the mold broken with Carrie and that no pretty female singer with blond hair will ever again win the title, especially if she sings country. So, we wonder why is it that the most success with past top ten contestants has been in country and on Broadway. And yes, although we respect Simon, we are sick of his uncalled-for nasty comments to contestants. Just because he is super rich does not give him the right to grind the contestants into the dirt with his putdowns.
We are still watching, but I don’t know how much longer we will continue unless some changes are made. Also, please keep the teenyboppers off the show, the likes of Sanjaya and “Danny.”
