Big Changes in Store for 'Idol'?

0428idol.jpg

Are the producers of "American Idol" considering an extreme makeover?

Yes. Reportedly worried about the ratings, "Idol producers are considering major changes, like playing the auditions as flashbacks.

Producers have also been taking audience surveys, asking if the judges banter too much and if fans want to see more or less of Ryan Seacrest.

"We've had a lot of pressure put on us by the media this year," says "Idol" Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe. "We're still number one, too. It starts to annoy you after awhile. Come at me and talk about ratings when we're not number one on the charts anymore."

i like american idol. i always watching till the end of the show.the one thing i don’t like is how they dressed like rugged this is american idol ,and too much commercial.the judges has to tell the truth how they perform.sometimes the voters reverse their vote ,because of the comment how they perform.just be honest.

I have a question for EXTRA, What was Simon thinking when the camera panned his face during Fantasia’s performance on AI, on the 05-15-08 episode?

We wanted Michael Johns. He brought down the house.

What is with the HORRIBLE Themes this year? Are the ratings so bad on AI that they are even getting turned down by appropriate mentors?

I just wish the show would be more about the contestants, less about the judges and Ryan.
If you want the contestants to “pick” the right songs, you need to have the right mentors.
AI continually drags everything out with the banter and the commercials, that I don’t even watch it anymore. I tape it and fast forward to the
preformances.
I never would consider voting either - what’s the point? 38 million votes is not 38 million viewers.

I can tell you why the ratings are down. That dang guilt-a-thon, for one thing! We watch American Idol for entertainment and to escape from our crummy problems for a while, not be hit on like a panhandler on the street.

Secondly, why should we vote for any of the contestants? I voted for Hicks in Season Five only to have Simon and Nigel repeatedly insult him. You can barely see him on the opening credits. The AI PTB have made it clear that America “got it wrong” with Hicks. Well, if we can’t be trusted to pick our own winner, and Simon/Nigel know better than we do, then dispense with the voting altogether and just let the judges decide.

Thirdly, the auditions. I know a lot of people who don’t even bother watching AI until the Top 24 or Top 12. Who wants to see a bunch of horrible singers, people dressed up like freaks just to get on TV, and worst of all, mentally challenged folks being made fun of and treated cruelly by the judges?

One more thing: The results show should be on at 8:00, the same time as the performance show, and it should be a half hour. Since the results show consists of 55 minutes of fluff and five minutes of revealing who’s been voted off, why should anyone sit through the whole darned thing?

american idol is still a great show,
but one of the complaints is the phone
system, no one is impress when ryan says
38 millon votes. the audience wants to
actually see who got the most votes,
not what we have know where we have
phone system that can dial thousand
times a minute, tweens dialing because
the guy has beautiful hair or eyes(sanjaya, and jason comes to mind),
it is talent contest. when it first
started with kelly and justin,
even second season with ruben
and clay thats when idol was good.
last, the show would not be the same
without ryan, simon, randy, and paula.

Taylor Hicks made Season 5 exciting. Why isn’t he on the show this year? They have had Kat McPhee, Elliott Yamin, and Kellie Pickler on. Even Chris Daughtry was in a clip for Idol Gives Back and sang “Home” last year for the contestants leaving each week. If Taylor was made to feel welcome on the show, the Soul Patrol would be on fire. On AmericanIdol.com there are over 4,000,000 comments on the boards for Season 5, mostly about Taylor. The other seasons have a few hundred thousand. That should tell TPTB something. The producers don’t care about Taylor’s fans or how they feel about wanting to see their Idol. If they cared about Taylor, I personally would care more about watching their show.

I love Taylor Hicks. Why has he not been on the show this year? They’ve had Kat McPhee, Kellie Pickler, and Elliott Yamin. And Chris Daughty was in a clip for Idol Gives Back and sang “Home” last year for the contestants going home. Taylor made Season 5 exciting and if his fans could count on seeing him from time to time, Idol would see a jump in their ratings just from Taylor alone. Some people don’t like Taylor but I guarantee the Soul Patrol would be on fire again.

The best was season 5. (Taylor Hicks, Kat Mcphee, Elliott, and Daughtry) I haven’t been able to watch since the middle of last year when the show went from good to terrible. Can’t believe Jordin Sparks won and now I am listening to that terrible song of hers on the radio.

AI picks the cheesiest songs to promote. That is why nobody is watching. They are only interested in people they can mold to fit their cheesy persona and not real musicians.

My only problem with the show is that obnoxious ryan seacrust. I fast-forward thru his parts all the time. Other than that, it’s still a great show. I liked when they added celebrity judges from time to time.

I love this show. Simon is great, paula is weird and Randy is just fat. But its a great show. The best does not always win, but the entertainment is great. Leave Ryan alone-he rocks. If we could get rid of the teeny boppers in the audiance it would be alot better. Rock on American Idol!! OUT—

It’s simple logic! It’s a show where America chooses who they want to win, not TPTB. We are the ones that listen to the songs on the radio, buy the cds, etc., yet you won’t let us have that choice. If America can’t choose, then why bother voting? And when we do choose you pimp who you want to anyway. It’s all gone downhill and picking up speed. Nigel I think your attitude has a lot to do with it too…why slap the hand that feeds you?

Stop with the cheesy themes. Just because these singers need to get exposure to sell their new CD, AI needs to use them as mentors. This has been the worst season for themes I have ever seen. These contestants need to sing more modern songs and let them express who they are as artists, instead of being forcefed 40 year old music that noone wants to hear anymore. Stop the moshpit, stop with the phone in calls, cut the elimination back down to 30 minutes.

American Idol is a farce. This is a variety entertainment show, that’s it. The manipulations, contradictions and forced influence over the viewers are obvious. One has to be blind not to see it. They’re only interested in WHO COULD BE MOLDED INTO POP AND MAKE TPTB MOST MOOLUAH.

Why ask for votes? They promote who they want anyway. If they lose viewers they say America Got It Wrong (referencing Taylor Hicks who brought in the best season ever) Nigel & Co should stop lying to themselves and reevaluate their behavior.

Be honest American Idol, hold private auditions at a label, pick who you want and be done with it. Don’t waste the time of American Public.

I don’t think they need to change anything, especially with the judges and ryan, they make the show, Rand, Paula, Simon, and Ryan ARE AMERICAN IDOL!
They are as entertaining as the contestants. Don’t change a good thing, you start changing stuff and then is when it starts to really fall.
