A Shocking 'Idol' Exit

0410johns.jpg

The show will not be going on for Michael Johns -- the hunkish contender was sent home from "American Idol" in a surprising elimination last night. At "Idol Gives Back" this week, Johns sang Aerosmith's "Dream On" and met with little criticism from the judges, with Paula saying he was "unbelievable" and sounded "as good as you look." Even the show's toughest critic, Simon Cowell, said Michael gave a "very good performance," and told the singer, "I'm going to miss you. You're a very good singer and a very, very nice guy."

Johns, who had never been in the bottom three before, looked surprised when host Ryan Seacrest announced that he had the lowest number of votes. "Tonight, we're going to say goodbye to Michael Johns," Seacrest said, with Johns looking stunned.

Audible hissing and boos were heard in the theater, showing support people held for the Aussie-born singer. "I am definitely surprised," Johns said. "I enjoyed singing that song."

I found the show very moving and my heart filled with hope for a better world and made me want to do my part to make a change and then….Ryan Secrest did the unthinkable the most unkind and uncharitable thing to a young man trying to make a change in his life and improve our world with his voice. Yes America voted him off (at least I believe they did?) but Ryan without any class and with one sentence changed the whole mode and purpose of the show. Shame on you Ryan. I believe if you Ryan offer an apology for your statement then we can all begin to heal. I will continue to watch because I love the energy these young people give me and I always buy their CD’s when they come out. I have them all and look forward to buying his. As for Idol give’s back…let’s see if they do…they need to give us back Michael John’s. If not to re-enter the contest then to make a guest appearance. Good family show although I had to explain to my children how their are people who speak before they think and the fallout that follows…so it was a good lesson to teach…now let’s learn from it and move on.

My jaw was one of the ones on the floor when Michael Johns was voted off…I have him on speed dial for Christ’s sake…I voted and voted. I will be looking forward to his first CD and hope there is a DVD also in the offing. He is visually stunning and entertaining and that accent! The whole package. I think he probably has a contract already and it will come out later that he does. The powers that be cannot possibly let this delicious hunk go away. It just isn’t possible. Love you Michael!

Absolutely shocking. If the writers gave Ryan his script on what to say then he should have had enough sense to just refuse. Fired? Well he has enough going that it would not matter and he would not be missed. I believe the whole thing is rigged because was this not a repeat of when Daughtry got voted off. Lets just see how upset the audience gets and then we will know how many people really watch. Did Michael already have a contract offer and want off? David should win hands down.

Personally, I think the Powers-that-Be over at Idol wanted to keep it going in a boy-girl elimination pattern so instead of eliminating one of the girls they took the guy with the lowest number of votes. I don’t think Michael should have gone home. He should have made it to the top 3 at least!!!!!!!!!!

Why in the world did Ryan say to him last year we did not send anyone home and that made Michael lift his spirits to give him a moment of hope and then take it away from him by telling him your going home tonight. He should not have brought that up at all. That was stupid and mean. What was he thinking. That was so insensitive. I think Ryan owes all of us an explanation and an apology to Michael.

Ryan, shame shame shame on you. That was worse than anything Simon has pulled! What were you thinking? You made everyone feel bad, and it was almost inhumane to do that to Michael Johns. You’d better be thinking of a way to make it up, and not do it again. Anyone on the top can take a fall out of the lime light. Its happened before, many a time.

I can’t believe Michael John got voted off….he has true talent.
and as for the way ryan handled the whole thing, he was rude and i feel he didn’t set a very good example. After all this is a family show. His ego is as big as his mouth!! time for ryan to be voted off.

What was the reasoning behind why they didn’t send someone home last year during Idol gives back week, and why this year they did send someone home?

I agree, Ryan was way out of line. Michael is an adult and should have been treated like one. Ryan was rude and very mean. In my eyes he does not deserve to host the most watched show in America. I have always thought his being mean to Simon was just for the ratings, but last night was above and beyond. It was cruel - They lost me as a viewer.

Ryan’s cocky rude attitude towards the contestant going home last night is the last straw for me ever watching the show again. He’s annoying as it is, but he was so mean last night, tricking the contestant as well as the audience. The judges should have said something about it being really “uncharitable” the way he spoke to Mr. Johns. Ryan should apologize to America for coming across so rude and heartless. What a poor example to set for a family oriented program on the week of charitable giving.

As disappointed as I am in Michael Johns going home, I am more disappointed in how mean spirited Ryan was in the way he spoke to him during the elimination. What a mean, cruel, poor spirited way to speak to someone during the week of “good intentions”. He gave the little teaser ray of hope that maybe he wouldn’t go and then again told him he was going home this week. It was like he had to go through it twice in 2 minutes. That was just cruel. Based on Ryan’s rude delivery method and the judges lack of correction of him, I won’t watch idol again. All the girls I work with agree we will stop watching this season based on Ryan’s behavior last night.

What a stunner last night on AI! I can’t believe Michael was in the bottom 3 must less voted off! I thought no one was going to be voted off this week - what gives? I had high hopes that Michael would win the whole thing! But like last year one of the best talents (Melinda Doolittle) was voted off way too soon.I’m convinced that mainly people under 21 cast most of the votes eventhough I voted about 40 times each for Michael, Carly nad Brooke. The teenagers seem to pick the winner based on how cute the contests are instead of true and pure talent! I also blame Randy and Simon for coming down too hard on Michael - the previous two weeks Michael was just amazing - what a born talent and star!!!!!!! Something has to change with this voting system. Perhaps there should be a limit of votes per contestant and/or the judges should have a 50% say on the winners and losers. Bring Michael Johns back!!!!!!!
It would be sweet revenge if he became a big success and the “so called winner” was a flop. Oh, yes that has happened before!

Don’t forget, you don’t have to win Idol to be succesful, and for some Artists NOT winning is a blessing because they can pursue their own type of music, example: DAUGHTRY. Let’s hope the same success happens to Michael Johns.
