The World According to Simon

"Extra's" own Terri Seymour sat down with "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell in an exclusive interview, and the critical wit dishes about plastic surgery, Paula Abdul's reported engagement and what triggered his recent weight loss.

Is Simon as mean as some people think he is? Simon says, "Brits are like that, we're not mean, we're just sarcastic." Cowell's Brit buddy, hypnotist Paul McKenna, joined the duo to talk about the debut of his new weight loss TV show, saying, "I can help you lose weight and stop the emotional eating... there's never been a TV show likes this before." While Cowell wasn't hypnotized by Paul, he revealed, "When you see yourself on camera and you put on weight, you start thinking about losing it for sure."

As to why Simon didn't ask McKenna for help to quit smoking, Simon says it's because he knew McKenna would stop him, admitting, "I love it!" In response to reports that Paula is engaged to restaurant owner J.T Torregiani, Simon rolled his eyes, quipping, "Seriously... makes me sad I'm not J.T!"

And don't expect Simon to show any love for going under the knife either. "Men shouldn't, no. Just doesn't look right... name one person, one guy who's had plastic surgery and looks good?

Can you name one?

All 3 are good at what they do. They have all also made mistakes about people. Just think how Simon put down Jennifer Hudson and she went on to win an Oscar, etc. I also don’t think Simon is as rude as he is brutally honest about how he sees/hears an artist. The show and the artist need his viewpoints…still, he is not ALWAYS right. Who is?

Paula is important to the panel and adds a softer touch to the harsher judgements and her comments are usually necessary and appreciated.

Randy is VERY VITAL as well and an EXPERT in the field. He is honest and up front also and gives good advice.

All 3 complement each other well, but ultimately the FINAL decision is with the voters anyway…i think.

I Like Randy - he’s knows his stuff. Paula doesn’t appear to know whats going on - she shouldn’t be there.

Now, Simon really knows his stuff. He’s too bold sometimes and hurts peoples feelings which is not really necessary - but he really does know if a singer is good or not.
If you really want to know how to tell if a singer is good, don’t look at them while singing, instead, just pay attention to how they sing, but look away. Their true voice comes out, then you can tell if the singer really sings good or not.
I think Simon knows that, because he rarely looks at a singer when they are singing … . just try it, you’ll see.
All the moving and facial expressions take away from the real voice.
Try not looking at the singer, and see if you can really figure out if they can or can’t sing. You’ll come up with better results if you don’t look at them.
Just try it … . it works.

American Idol would be so very boring without Simon Cowell. He is the most honest one among them. Why do people insist on calling him rude when he is just saying it like it is. You don’t have to like what he says but he is not there to be Mr Nice….just provide an honest opinion. I don’t dislike Randy and Paula but Paula in particular doesn’t seem to have an original thought. She simply repeats what Randy says(sometimes manages to turn the sentence around a bit) comments on how beautiful a person the competitor is or how nice their clothes are… I do get annoyed when they interrupt Simon or ridicule his comments while he is still talking, as he at least allows them to have their say…..he may not agree with them(normally doesn’t) but at least he has the good manners to let them have their say. Also he doesn’t sugar coat everything!!! I would like the see the judges rotate their positions when giving feedback and see what Paula can come up with when she is first to comment.

cowell has excellent evaluation skills. sometimes he is a bit rough, but most of the candidates who try out, are really crazy thinking they can sing at all. Plenty of them are obnoxious, naive, ignorant. and many are talented but just not appropriate for Idol.

I have been watching a lot of Simon lately. He is a very intriging personality. He has a gentle side that we don’t always see. I love to see him excited about his work. He takes it seriously and is honestly trying to help others realize whether they are suited for the music business or not. I don’t call that being mean…on the contrary, I find that being kind. If you don’t have the talet you will not make it no matter what.

I really don’t think Simon is rude. I like him and he is just honest and people cannot always take honesty. He is critical but honest … Paula is too agreeable with the contestants. She says everyone is so good and she loves them all. She should be honest and tell them what she really thinks. I do like her a lot, she is a neat lady, but wish she wouldn’t tell everyone they are great when they really are not. People don’t like critism, but it is really done for their own good to help them improve.
