Patrick Swayze Battling Pancreatic Cancer

Beloved "Dirty Dancing" star Patrick Swayze is battling cancer. His reps have confirmed the heartbreaking news that he’s undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, but contrary to reports, he doesn’t have just weeks to live. "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far," his physician announced through his reps today. "All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic." In fact, Patrick, 55, will continue working on his upcoming projects.

His reps added, "The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

In a report that reverberated across the Internet today, The National Enquirer claimed that Patrick had only five weeks to live and that his wife, Lisa, had been flying him to Stanford’s famed Cancer Center in an attempt to save his life.

NEXT: Send Patrick Your Well-Wishes

I would like to know the name of the experimental drug used. My 48 yr. old son has pancreatic cancer & has just begun chemo. I had ewings sarcoma (bone cancer) & suffered thru 2 amputations & 2 yrs. (2x a wk.) chemo. This is a most beloved husband, father & son.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Patrick, Don’t let any of this get you down.I’ve had cancer three times and am now considered a terminal heart patient that has outlived all expectations by years. It’s faith’ prayer ( yours and others) that does it. I know that you have a lot of people that love and admire you that pray for you and your wife daily. On the low days keep that in mind.

God hold you close. You and your family are in my prayers. You are such a wonderful person, I have never met you but your gentleness and love come through with your actions. I loved Ghost, and well, lets say I wore out one Dirty Dancing tape and am now working on wearing out a DVD. I’ve seen it 38 times and still love every second of it.

Dear Patrick, sorry to hear about your illness. Don’t let it kill your spirit and life. There is always hope, and miracles do happen. Laugh, smile and enjoy life still. I have a brother with bone cancer, he’s in a lot of pain, and way out lived what the doctors said he would. Ten + years. My mother passed away from cancer at the age of 48. I was 15 then, in 1962. She was too young. She had 6 children and all of us have outlived her. Keep faith and live on. By the way I’ve always loved your movies. You were and still are so sexy! How is that? Love you

I want to tell you that because of the movies that you have made, I have had a grade deal to help me with the pain that I have gone through all of my life because I was born with Sickle Cell Anemia, it is not Cancer, but the pain is just as bad, my Oncologist told me that she expected me that he expected me to die at 28 years, but I am now 38 because of my faith in God; so God bless you, because as the Bible says you can have anything in the name of Jesus if you only believe.

I was absolutely devastated to learn that Patrick Swayze is suffering from pancreatic cancer. He was wonderful in Dirty Dancing. My prayers go out to him and his family. I certainly do not want him to meet the same fate as my television hero, Michael Landon, who himself died of pancreatic cancer in 1991 at just 54 years old. Hopefully, Patrick will make a full and quick recovery.
