Hollywood Crazy for Swayze

The heart-wrenching news of Patrick Swayze’s diagnosis has celeb well-wishers reaching out to him from coast to coast, starting with “Ghost” co-star Whoopi Goldberg, who spoke to her friend via this morning’s “The View.” Whoopi blew kisses to Swayze and said it was an incredibly tough day for her, and reminisced about how Patrick told producers he wouldn’t have done the movie if Whoopi hadn’t been cast, saying, “When I won my Academy Award, the only person I really thanked was Patrick.” Barbara Walters echoed her sentiments, with her own recollection of Swayze, telling viewers, “I did a special with him and we danced together … he danced and I sort of schlepped along.”

Cheryl Landon, daughter of the late Michael Landon, also responded to the news, having lost her father to pancreatic cancer, the same disease Swayze is now fighting. She sent her love to Patrick and his family, telling “Extra,” “My heart goes out, because it is absolutely one of the most frightening things that can happen to any family member.” Cheryl’s family friend, Dick Van Dyke, who was close with Michael, also wished Patrick well, then lamented, “It’s the worst of all of them, it’s just so hard to treat.”

Cheryl added that you can never underestimate the power of love. “I believe in the power of love in the battle of toughest times -- love -- is truly the most powerful force.”

Dear Patrick: Pancreatic Cancer is indeed horrible but I will pray that God will intervene. Michael Landon fought so hard and tried to do all that he could to shake it but this turned out to be his Achillis Heel. May God bless his soul….May God bless you and remember we will all be praying for you.

I have been a fan from day one. Love to watch you dance and act. I would like you to know that with the right meds and the right doctors you could get past this illness. My ex-husband had the same thing and was told he only had six months. That was seven years ago. With all the right things and the love and support of his wife he is doing fine at 69. My best wishes go out to you and your wife.
