The Brad Renfro 911 Tape

“Extra” has obtained the 911 tape in which Brad Renfro’s girlfriend desperately tries to revive the former child actor.

She explained to the phone operator that “his nose is bleeding…he doesn’t seem to be breathing…he’s completely passed out.”

When asked what happened, Renfro’s girlfriend responds, “I’m not sure. I think he might have taken a couple of pills last night… I’ve been trying to wake him up to get ready and he just won’t move.”

The phone operator continues to give instructions on how to do chest compressions. Renfro died Jan. 15 in what officials described as a heroin overdose. The L.A. County Coroner's office has ruled his death an accident.

He was 25.

Renfro starred in 1994's "The Client" and had recently completed a movie with Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thorton.

doesn’t sound like she’s desperate to revive him, sounds like she’s desperate to buy a new prada bag and sleep with a new famous guy

When you call 911 they have the technology that your address comes up on the screen, and there is help dispatched right away. They ask certain questions to know who to call out - ambulance, police, fire. He was taking the front line step in saving Brads life (if he wasnt already gone) untill the paramedics got there. The gF did fantastic, but Im quite sure the moment she mentioned pills being taken that they sent medical help.
Obviously, as it was only 8 minutes into the call and you hear her say they had just arrived. Its a tradjedy, but I think all did what they could.

It’s over 3 minutes into the call before they start CPR. 911 operators are supposed to be calm but this guy was just to calm. If someone is passed out on the floor get help! He wasn’t even going to send help till the other operator said something about possible overdose. He could obviously tell this girl wasn’t with it. He should have acted sooner. Minutes save lives. Regardless of whether or not this poor kid had already passed on, there should have been more urgency on the operators part. SAD!

She is obviously under the influence of something and doesn’t quite realize the severity of the situation. The 911 operator’s job is to keep the caller as calm as possible, he does that by remainnig calm himself. It never sounds like he is frustrated with her, just trying to help her help her unconscious friend. It’s very tragic and my heart goes out to her. I hope, if she was on drugs, that it provides as a wake up call and she gets help before she ends up in the same place.
RIP Brad.

What 911 operator in their right mind doesn’t offer any information to let the person on the other end know that ‘help is on the way’? (As the person below noted..) That seems like a measure that should be taken every time, simply to offer some solace to the person calling 911. The girlfriend was trying to do what she could…and I can imagine what was going through her head…not everyone took CPR or can even function in an emergency situation. She was calm…(she seemed really removed though…) but I can only attribute that to shock and not her lack of sensabilities…she just seems mechanical to me. Drugged out people generally don’t even call the cops because they are too concerned about their own well being (I think that’s part of being drugged out…) *I am saying this from past experience with friends who threw another friend of mine face down in a bathtub while he was OD-ing on heroin…instead of calling 911…because they didn’t want to get busted..* I feel sorry for her as she was never offered information that help would arrive soon, and I think that she did the best she could given the circumstances.

Did Brad’s girlfriend have some sort of issue? She sounds like she is as high as a kite or just completely slow. The 9-1-1 operator did everything right.
Kids stay off drugs…this could be you!

This guy should be fired. He first was treating her like she was an idiot. She tried, she was probably in some sort of shock. She’s not a friggen paramedic. Just get the ambulance there! For Christ Sake! I would be having a heart attack if this was my BF or husband, I give her all the credit in the world. You even hear the women in the background ask if the police should go over in case of an overdose!! Tell the people help is on the way, that’s what they want to hear. I could have not even done all she did. Your listening to all these instructions while someone’s life is in your hands. And this guy was acting like it was her pet bird or something. He never tells her help is on the way.

Was it necessary for him to be on the phone with her for 10 minutes, prior to getting help to him ASAP??? Couldn’t he tell thet the girl was not all there either?

This is so sad. 25 Years old and dead. Breaks my heart. She sounds like she is all messed up too. “A few pills”, terrible that this is all his life meant to him. Addiction is a terrible thing. May he now rest in peace.

Being a professional and administering CPR in a stressful situation is difficult enough, I can’t imagine being unsure of what to do and then attemting to administer CPR to someone you love. Hopefully none of us will ever have to find out.

In the meantime quit judging and go get cetified!

Lyla.
It´s very easy to say “I would do this or that” BUT when you haven´t been in that situation you shouldn´t judge.
Maybe you would absolutely freak out and not to anything “right”

His fate were not at the hands of that woman because HE HIMSELF did heroin and that´s why he died.

I agree with DJ.. at least the GF did her earnest best. Imagine those women who were trying to survive Kanye West’s mom?? Now that’s what I call bad treatment. But this one was much better than the usuals.

Lyla, what are you talking about? I think she did her best to save his life.. it’s not her fault that the lousy BF overdosed him self. She was very calm and composed and we have to give her for that!

I just listened to the call and I am utterly outraged! Her inability to act like a reasonable person under similar circumstances makes me so mad!!! When I mean a reasonable person, I mean, a normally intelligent person who’s not on drugs nor has any type of normal impairment! She acted so negligently, I don’t even know where to begin! Either she’s on drugs, has a mental problem (if so, then that would at least justify her actions), or she is just the stupidest person I’ve ever heard!!!

If my BF, friend, or roommate was unconscious, I would have demanded an ambulance ASAP, or driven him there myself!!!

She is so vacant she doesn’t even seem to be able to follow the operator’s instructions. It’s all rocket science for her!!!

Even the operator was so frustrated and astounded at her stupidity!!! What side is the heart on????????????????

As much as I loved Brad and was a big fan, if this was his fate, at the hands of the stupidest woman in the world, I don’t think he stood a chance!!

I can never listen to this again! Breaks my heart!!!!!!!
