The Brad Renfro 911 Tape

“Extra” has obtained the 911 tape in which Brad Renfro’s girlfriend desperately tries to revive the former child actor.

She explained to the phone operator that “his nose is bleeding…he doesn’t seem to be breathing…he’s completely passed out.”

When asked what happened, Renfro’s girlfriend responds, “I’m not sure. I think he might have taken a couple of pills last night… I’ve been trying to wake him up to get ready and he just won’t move.”

The phone operator continues to give instructions on how to do chest compressions. Renfro died Jan. 15 in what officials described as a heroin overdose. The L.A. County Coroner's office has ruled his death an accident.

He was 25.

Renfro starred in 1994's "The Client" and had recently completed a movie with Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thorton.

Ok the dispatcher was great! He was clearly dealing with someone that obviously had no clue about what she was dealing with. I work in the medical field and time is of the essence, you have to expect the unexpected. Going by the sounds in the background that the Paramedics began CPR as soon as they arrived…The Defibrillator sounded off in the last minute of this recording. This female could not tell if he was breathing, and could not locate his heart. Every effort that you put into CPR is helps! However, the 911 dispatcher did an awesome job…she says that he is making noises, which means the breath’s that she is giving him is clearly being pushed back out of his lungs. She gave every effort that she had, due to the circumstances that she was under the influence of something. Slurred speech and unclear memory replay, seems to play a major part for her. It is undetermined how long Brad was down, which also plays a big part in the attempts to resuscitate him. This is a very sad tape and Thoughts of what it must have been like keep going through my head! The dispatcher must has been a wreck* But it is his job to remain calm and walk inexperienced individuals through this process. Brad is in a better place…my god bless his family…he was a very outgoing, caring, loving individual…I will miss him~ I love you Brad

What a stupid, stung out, piece of crap, waste of life, unemotional chick. He might have had a faint heartbeat or could have been breathing very shallow. What took so long for help to arrive?? Instead they spend 9 mins on the phone with some stung out idiot?

Probably one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to hear. Mostly because I was a huge Renfro fan.

This was so very painful for everyone involved. You can hear the sighs from the dispatcher, he knows it’s too late. As for the gf, well, does it really matter if she was high or not? She did the right thing, and she did it as best she could. I’m sure if I were to walk in my bf’s home and find him lying on the floor, unresponsive, blood coming from his nose, I don’t think I’d be in too good of share either..I know I wouldn’t. So slamming her isn’t going to bring anyone back, or make the situations outcome better. She did her best.

Let’s all just remember the happy smiling Brad, and his many wonderful films he made. Not the lifestyle he chose to live. After all, none of us are perfect, and we definitely shouldn’t be throwing stones.

RIP Brad-you will be missed.

I think the operator took into consideration that he was dealing with someone who knew absolutely nothing about CPR and that she was impaired in some way. The operator is supposed to remain very calm in these situations and I thought his directions were excellent, of course, speaking slowly for her benefit. Yes, if Brad did have a chance of surviving, it was not going to be given by his girlfriend. Sorry to think that some one of her age, had no knowledge, what so ever, of what steps to take to see if he was actually breathing. She actually did the best she could do under the circumstances. Instead of riduculing people who evidently have a substance problem, pray for them.

If he wasnt dead before the attempted CPR he sure was after, dont call this junkie if you’re dying, by the time the mist clears from the brain of this strung out fool you’ll be dead too!

I don’t understand why his history of drug abuse is not the FIRST thing mentioned.

All 911 tapes can be made public if they are not needed for evidence in court first. This girl does sounds whacked out, however, she is trying to help him and the dispatcher IS trying. But by the time all the CPR started he was probly dead anyway. She sounds more wasted or in shock, I dont think she calm at all. She is just trying to concentrate I think. Unfortunately, she does sound a little dim. This is why people should learn CPR, maybe he could have been saved to do another day of drugs :O(

Very sad… it was obvious the dispatcher knew he was gonna be unrecoverable and was having her do cpr just to keep her busy till the paramedics arrived. Her compressions were way too slow and he didn’t seem to try to hurry her. He did an excellent job of taking control of the situation considering she sounded either completely out of it or not very bright. I feel very sorry for the girlfriend and hope that she’s gotten help for both her loss and addiction issues. I was very fond of Renfro and will miss his contribution to entertainment.

I disagree with people’s comments about the 911 commentor. I think he was kind, calm, and VERY helpful. He’s a hero.

This is ridiculous, it’s like she’s never heard of cpr before! She doesn’t even know where his heart is, she’s obviously on some kind of drugs. This is an extremely sad situation and i hope someone learns something from this

It was a good thing for anyone to hear this.

Especially if you are someone who does drugs or is an alcoholic… it CAN happen to you.

The dispatcher was extremely patient with this girl, and the fact that she called in her state is commendable, yet VERY SAD!

I hope that NOBODY ever has to go through this situation, let alone have to have it be aired publicly.

Maybe she’ll turn her life around and become a spokeswoman for an important cause.

God Bless everyone involved.

easy to point the finger when you’ve never done the job. Great job on the dispatchers part, gf sounds like shes as high as a kite/not in shock for all you tards out there! Drugs have consequences and one of those is death!

This is unreal. The g/f is totally high, hello, listen to her voice. She is messed up too. At least she called 911, but releasing this is sick. It is totally morbid. What do you expect from Hollywood. Sick.

Do any of you guys know what your talking about…Have you ever been an operator dispatcher? they have to find out everything before they can have someone do CPR, like someone said bf you cant give CPR to someone if they are breathing, he can’t help that shes slow,…HE did nothing wrong. 8 minutes is quick for paramedics to arrive, its not like the paramedics are next door. Everyone is complaining about extra airing this, well if you got a problem with it, then why are you all listening?

This sounds very peculiar for one why is she so calm, she must be on something with him too. And y did it take so long for the dispatcher to decide to send a paramedic. That poor guy didn’t have a fighting chance.
