Inside the Controversial '5-Bite Diet'

Hollywood has seen all kinds of extreme diets, from the cabbage soup diet to the cayenne pepper fast. Now comes perhaps the most controversial, the 5-Bite Diet, which is supposed to work like a gastic bypass without the surgery.

Is it safe? Judge for yourself.

I think it is an awesome concept! This is temporary, not a lifestyle! I cannot wait to get started…after viewing this segment, I ordered the book and joined the website forum. Thanks for the info Extra!

I am shocked ‘Extra’ would even give this charlatan the air time. Eating disorders in this country are at an epidemic level for both men and women and suggesting this kind of ‘diet’ is dangerous and careless. I am sure many of your viewers are in their teens and are unable to or don’t have access to resources that can help them make healthy choices should they want to lose weight. This ‘diet’ is the first step in teaching anyone how to unrealistically ‘control’ their eating….which is the first step into the madness of an eating disorder, namely, anorexia. I honestly thought this segment was a joke. Sadly, it was offered as a bona fide option to weight loss. Sincerely, Rachael Harris

This is crazy. I see this only helping people to become anorexic, in fact these tips are on many pro-ana sites! No doctor should recommend this type of starvation diet!

I am the guy who lost 104 pounds. If you are interested, I have kept that 104 pounds off for the past year. Since then my energy level has dramatically increased and I have participated in climbing the 75 floors of the US Bank Tower in 17 minutes, something that I could never have done otherwise. And further, I am registered for two more stair climb races this year and I hope to climbt he Sears Tower in Chicago in November. Maybe it isn’t for everyone, but Dr. Lewis’ program continues to work for me. Thanks, Doctor!
